[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

We appreciate your passion for this feature and want to thank you all for your feedback!

This was a dumb idea.  The widget was actually useful on a daily basis for those of us who constantly listen to music.  Instead of wasting time adding more video functions and such to a music app, keep your focus on improving (or at least maintaining) the experience for music listeners.

This makes me really frustrated to hear that the widget was just removed without any user feedback. My phone must've updated the app automatically because it simply removed my widget and I had no idea why. I don't think that it makes a lot of sense to remove such a standard feature, and I guess I feel like it is a step backwards for Spotify. I love Spotify and it is the only subscription I have for a music service, so to have this happen is very upsetting. What was the purpose of removing the widget? I saw that the reason was listed as trying to focus on other things, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense if this is a feature that already existed and didn't require further development.

It looks like that they want us to become apple user. No individualism! How small-minded...

I'll give it a week, if the Widget isn't back then I'm returning to Google Play Music

Taking this away had already resulted in my using Spotify less and I will definitely be downgrading my premium membership. Bring back the easiest way to interact with your app, even if it isn't currently running (required for the drop down and lock screen). Nearsighted foolishness...

'Not Right Now' after less than 24 hours sounds like an excuse to sweep this under the rug.

Sorely dissapointed.

Spotify has been on a downward slide for a while now so I'm voting with my wallet. Cancelled my premium service and I'll be switching to Pandora. Thanks for the memories.

Your decision put many users into an inconvenient position. Since I don't know the reason behind this, I can only assume that it's worth making a part of your user base, including myself, disappointed, in order to pursue your business goals.

You can simply wait and see if the angry ones eventually run out of steam, or if they really endure another inconvenience by leaving Spotify behind.

As far as I am concerned, I am going to set some spare time aside in order to evaluate other music services.

For me personally, your behaviour leaves a too bitter aftertaste on an otherwise excellent service.

Only 24h and this "idea" is already 13th on the "top ideas" and 1st on the "hot ideas"!!

Time to contact journalists and bloggers. I would love to see some popular blogs or newspapers speaking about that unbelievable Spotifail.

Like someone else said, the Pandora widget fits where Spotify use to be just fine. I don't understand why companies make dumb decisions like this and say it's for a "better" experience when they know, as well as, everyone else knows that is just an excuse.
