Close Button Closes Spotify [Windows]

Or at least minimize it to a tray Icon. But I would say close it. Maybe this is more of an opinion, but I've only used 2 programs that are this bad. Skype and Spotify. And Skype is a really bad program.  So I don't know why in Spotify, the Close and Minimize button do the same exact thing. I would like a quick way to close the program and stop the musik.  This is mainly a problem for me on Windows 7 and I believe linux is very similar.

Adding my support to what's been already raised.

The X is for close... I really didn't need a second minimise button.

Ideally, a tray icon "OPTION" would be preferred, then add the "OPTION" to close the Window, which removes the Task Bar presense, but leaves it running via the Tray Icon.... I use the word "OPTION" in bold to highlight that I believe this should be the users choice, not your insistance, I don't believe all users would like it to be configured this way.

This is actually insulting. You know exactly what your users want when they press the close button, but you are trying to prevent them from closing your program, which is borderline malicious.

134 comments on this issue.... This is getting a bit embarrassing? RealPlayer tactics never worked for RealNetworks and I'm they won't work for Spotify. I'm a paying customer and I expect any software I pay for to adhere to normal user interface design heuristics. Just get it fixed 🙂

X to minimize drives me crazy.  I hate apps that do this and actively seek out alternatives.  Please change this behavior to the WINDOWS DEFAULT.

I press close to close a program, I press minimize to minimize a program.  Stop trying to be special. I will not use this program until this is fixed.

Yeah, this is enough to make me uninstall and cancel my subscription. DO NOT BREAK OS BEHAVIOR. SERIOUSLY, DON'T DO IT. Close button is for CLOSING THE APP, not minimizing. I pay for your service, you do not get to determine when I close the app. Change it, or I'm gone. And if you're sitting there thinking "Seriously, is it that important?!?" YES, IT IS. If I press the close button, It's because I WANT THE APPLICATION TO CLOSE. Do not try to interpret what I want, do what I tell you.

If I want to close a program, I click the close button.

If I wanted to mininise it, I would click the minimise button.

Assigning minimise-behaviour to the close-button is extremely bad usability.

I'm already a spotify member for over a year and this annoys me EVERY DAY!

This is ridiculous! Give me an option of this! Have the option turned off by default so the majority will still have this behavior, but let your users decide how the program interacts with their own interface!!

Terminate. As in: not hide from the user, not minimise, not maximise, not order a pizza. Terminate. The fact that this behaviour is outlined in the documentation suggests to me that the Spotify developers deliberately added code to defy the decades-old paradigm that close means *brace yourself* 'close'.

Rather, Spotify has the arrogance to presume that there is no way their users would ever want to close the celebrated unicorn that is their application. Given this behaviour I'm surprised it even has a **bleep**ing pause button.
