Close Button Closes Spotify [Windows]

Or at least minimize it to a tray Icon. But I would say close it. Maybe this is more of an opinion, but I've only used 2 programs that are this bad. Skype and Spotify. And Skype is a really bad program.  So I don't know why in Spotify, the Close and Minimize button do the same exact thing. I would like a quick way to close the program and stop the musik.  This is mainly a problem for me on Windows 7 and I believe linux is very similar.

Totally agree with you. Spotify's X button is the most annoying thing I've seen in a while.

This single aspect of the Spotify app makes me not want to use Spotify at all. Every time I ever open it, I think to myself... "I'm not going to be able to close this easily..." and then around half the time I decide against using Spotify.

Absolutely terrible design decision. Please fix!

Please do something about this, at least add an option to disable this behaviour. It's terrible.

And for me it's not about some memory use or what, I simply hate that attitude it is expressing + I don't want to be told how to close a program.

Agreed, this is irritating, and poor software development practice.  The Windows "X" button and the Alt-F4 keyoard shortcut mean the same very specific thing, namely exit the application, and Spotify for Windows is written to override these behaviors to mean minimize instead.  Not cool - please, at the very least, offer an option in the Preferences area to use Windows defaults for "X" and Alt-F4.

Asking to add an option in preferences to change the behavior of the X button is a copout. 

Some people are asking for that because they are afraid the Spotify team will reject the idea to change the default behavior outright.

Don't be afraid. Having two buttons ( _ and X ) basically right next to each other that do the exact same thing and ignoring the standard is a stupid idea.

Whoever thought it was a good idea obviously has no respect for their users and that person is a douche bag. End of story.

If Spotify really wants happy users, they will change their application to be in line with every other application.

At the very least, if they don't want people using the X button, just get rid of the X button completely. The _ button is still there.

New Spotify user. Never seen a windows program that doesn't completely shut down when you click the red X. Come on Spotify, WTF? It is so annoying. Please conform to the Windows standard. I can go elsewhere to listen to music.

New user here as well.  On the free trial.  I have to admit, I like nearly everything else about the application except this.  It is so excruciatingly annoying that it actually has me considering whether I want to make my membership permanent.  A simple preference that asks how the user would like this button to function would suffice.  I do not want it to minimize, there's already a button for that.  It should CLOSE the application.  Maybe you could make this the default action and have a pop-up the first time someone clicks it and let them know that if they close the application synching will cease etc.  Then put a check box in there that says "Do not remind me again".  There are plenty of compromises here, after all we are just asking for you to make this app follow standard app etiquette rather than trying to be the thorn in our side.

This was posted 2 years ago and still it doesn't close the program? Come on, so hard to write 4 lines of code to close it from the "X"? Extremely annoying for Spotify to stay open. X is for close like it is in most proper Windows programs and Spotify should also. There's not a single good reason for it not to.
