[Desktop] Add support for Apple Silicon (ARM64 on Mac)

Feature request:

Add support for Apple Silicon in a future Spotify release on Mac OS.

Apple have recently released a new generation of Macs based on their own Apple Silicon. I hope that Spotify will prioritize native support for this new CPU architecture.  If so the best music platform on the Mac, will continue running great natively on the new generation Mac hardware.

Hey everyone,

Thank you all for bringing your feedback to the Community Idea Exchange and participating in this Beta test!

Your input has been invaluable and helped us tweak the app to make full use of the new CPU architecture.

We're happy to announce that the app is now out of Beta and can be downloaded from our website. You should automatically get the correct version for your Mac's CPU and all updates will be automatic as well, just the way it was in the past.

This idea is now officially implemented! Thanks once more for all your votes and posts.

Happy listening! 🎶

Hey folks,

We really appreciate all the feedback you've provided so far.

We'll be forwarding the sleep issue to the right folks and will also continue to keep an eye out for new reports.

We'd also like to ask you to remain topical and provide feedback on the performance of the Beta app, as this isn't the right thread for feature requests. We'd like to prevent this from going off topic so we can continue monitoring the thread and ensure we don't miss anything important.

Cheers!

The M1 app doesn't keep up with what's playing via Connect, reporting the unhelpful error message "Spotify can't play this right now. If you have a file on your computer you can import it."

Screen Shot 2021-07-02 at 9.57.55 AM.png

It's playing on my phone, but the "now playing" display on the M1 app is stuck several songs back. Trying to switch to the active song causes the playing song to switch (again, playing through my iPhone) but does not cause the "now playing" display to change. Only quitting the app and reopening it will do that.

Actually this seems worse than the x86 version - the error message isn't new (this is a long-term unresolved issue, reported all over this forum since at least 2018 with no resolution) but the 'now playing' misbehavior is.

Thanks for the update. Works well and fast on M1. And, the RAM usage only 100-120MB. 😱

But small issue here, where do we report bugs?

Bug: No audio coming out from Spotify after waking up from sleep.

Version: 1.1.63.488.g27383f12-a

I had the issue that when I changed from a wifi network to another while playing music, the Spotify app would not reconnect and stayed offline, and thus could not let me continue playing music until I quit the app and opened it again. This was on a 2020 M1 MacBook Air.

Just wow! The app with the M1 support is very fast, thank you Spotify for the M1 support! 🙏

Works like a champ so far - thanks much.
