[Desktop] Add support for Apple Silicon (ARM64 on Mac)

Feature request:

Add support for Apple Silicon in a future Spotify release on Mac OS.

Apple have recently released a new generation of Macs based on their own Apple Silicon. I hope that Spotify will prioritize native support for this new CPU architecture.  If so the best music platform on the Mac, will continue running great natively on the new generation Mac hardware.

Hey everyone,

Thank you all for bringing your feedback to the Community Idea Exchange and participating in this Beta test!

Your input has been invaluable and helped us tweak the app to make full use of the new CPU architecture.

We're happy to announce that the app is now out of Beta and can be downloaded from our website. You should automatically get the correct version for your Mac's CPU and all updates will be automatic as well, just the way it was in the past.

This idea is now officially implemented! Thanks once more for all your votes and posts.

Happy listening! 🎶

So I've been using the new beta for a while now, and the constant crashes that were common with the old version are gone, and I'm very glad they created the beta! 🙂

Like others, I deleted the existing version of the app, grabbed the new version and reinstalled. Still stuck at the "Choose 3 or more artists you like" prompt.

By the way, you can't even access the About Spotify area until you answer this prompt. You guys should really clear that as a requirement - I'm not able to tell what app version this is or if it even has me logged in.

Just got an auto-update to 1.1.66.580.gbd43cbc9-a

Same here , auto update to a new version.

Is it the final ?

I 've downloaded and checked the official installer and it's the same version as this one , with a universal app.

BLahz

@Marshall3911 so it seems, the installer is also universal for me.

TheArmKing

For me the official installer is universal but the Spotify it installs is Intel (x86_64) only

Jmackley

Yeah the spotify installer is now a universal application but it still installs the intel version of spotify

Hey everyone,

Thanks for your continuous feedback on our Beta app and your help on making it better!

Just a reminder: this thread is for issues specific to the Beta-version. Anything non-specific and issues that are in the regular release should be posted in the relevant Help boards. Let's keep this thread focused please.

Note that the app version optimized for M1 ARM CPUs should be downloaded and installed from the dmg file linked in the Status Update of this idea. It will update to the latest Beta version currently available. We will let everyone know, as soon as other download options become possible.

@18740811 we recommend that you try the steps suggested by Ver in her post here. They seem to have helped @grubbymits, so make sure to follow them thoroughly.  If it still doesn't work, you should still be able to just pick any 3 artists - as you've already established a music profile from using the app, this won't have much, if any effect.

Take care!
