[Desktop] Do not limit queue visibility to 50 for manual additions

The new desktop experience should behave how the queue previously worked.

When you manually add tracks, they should not disappear once the queue length reaches 50. All manually added tracks should display.

My use case is: In the morning, I queue up a bunch of albums for the entire day so I can concentrate on work and not have to bother choosing tracks throughout the day. With a visible limit of 50 this becomes very difficult and frustrating. The limit is arbitrary as playlists can still display the full number of tracks.

I don't want to have to create a playlist for this as I have still have a playlist running in case the queue runs out.

I can't help feeling this is an oversight and it shouldn't be hard to resolve.

Hey folks,

Thanks for letting us know this is something you wanted to see. We're marking this as implemented.

As some of you have already mentioned, the Play Queue now shows more than 50 tracks.

Please continue to leave your feedback around the app and we'll keep sharing it with our internal teams. Thanks!

Piotrek, I am assuming in your shot above you just added the track Ritual using Add to Queue.
The application does not behave that way for me, not the Desktop nor the mobile.

The recent add goes to the End of the Queue.

I am using the Desktop client for Windows 10 and the Android mobile client. What are you using?

Piotrek

It always worked for me like this.

Desktop client on Windows 8.1 - 1.1.54.592. Maybe I have some older version and they changed behaviour in newest ones?

Vanyo
Indeed they have. That is a very old version on a very old OS (fine if it
works for you, of course!)

I absolutely agree, this 50 song limit is nonsense!

pizzicatoiv

spotify excels at features absolutely no one asked for.

Adeynack

That has been an annoyance for more than 4 months now. I beg of you: please tear down that wall! Joking appart: please fix this. Should be either a constant to change or adding a setting for it. I do not mind if it is the default, but it should be either disable-able or changeable in the config.

@Vanyo

My spotify forcefully updated to 1.1.65 and it still has same behavior. When I click add to queue it is added as next song after currently playing, not on bottom of play queue.

I note that the latest release of spotify desktop appears to have removed the 50 song limit and it appears to be back to normal. So thank you!

Piotrek

Which version do you have? I have 1.1.68 and when I try to play playlist with 140 songs I can only see 81 in play queue. It is stuck at displaying one I play and 80 ahead so when I play next 1 new song loads as 81.

When you try to play band it still displays only current album. For example try to play sabaton - you see 10 popular songs + 11 songs from most recent album. Play queue ends at "in flander fields". When you  reach "seven pillars of wisdom" it loads next album "great war history version".  When you reach "seven pillars - history version" it loads yet another album into queue "soundtrack to great war". So you still cannot see all songs at once like in old versions 😞

The issue was with manually adding songs to the queue, if you add all the songs in your playlist to the queue rather than just playing it, you should now see all of your added songs in the queue. Original behaviour for queue (before it was broken) is how it appears now (except now 80 rather than 50). I never listened to albums the way you are saying so I can't say whether that has changed from before the new UI.

To see the updated behaviour, play a playlist, then right click on an album and add to the queue. When you view the queue now, it should be <number of songs in album> + 81 long. The broken behaviour would have had that number set at 50 regardless of how many songs you manually had in the queue, and would not display any manually added songs past 50.
