[Desktop] Option if Spotify links should open native Spotify app or Webplayer

Seems like Spotify keeps pushing this issue aside because not enough people are complaining about it. I've actually seen a good amount of posts on the community boards about it but none of them seem to have gained traction with the powers that be, claiming its a non-issue and the post gets closed. I disagree, wholeheartedly.

Please bring this option back! I don't use the web player... ever. And, I don't want to now have to start copying and pasting the links into spotify app. Call me lazy. The advanced settings used to have the option to have links open in the desktop app. But that option has recently disappeared. Seems like a very obvious and useful feature, and just strange to suddenly remove that functionality.

My friends and I are always trading spotify links via text and emails and it's incredibly frustrating that it now doesn't automatically open in the desktop app like it used to. If I say pretty please, with a link to a cherry on top, would you consider this a legitimate request?

Hey folks,

Thanks for your feedback and suggestions on this one.

You should now have the option to open song links directly in the Spotify app!

Cheers 🙂

Dan's solution works, but only temporarily.  I'm not sure how, but either when cookies are cleared or Firefox is updated to a new version, the solution resets itself. So you have to keep on repeating it.

It would be really nice to have an option somewhere to disable the web player for those of us that prefer the desktop client.

Sorry about this.

But serioisly IF I LISTEN MUSIC ON DESKTOP SPOTIFY, I do not want to open links at Web Spotify.

If guy sends link on forum or Skype, music is opened in Web Spotify. My track I play on Windows Spotify client is paused just to listen track on webspotify. Please STOP THIS mother**bleep**ing **bleep**. Don't interrupt my music.

Let me see from link track details and where I can choose from where I listen if I want to do.

I prefer TO QUEUE tracks manually, not to OPEN right away for play from webspotify or pcspotify.

YES! I didn't even know that they changed this. Web player want me to instal spotify app. I had this app already but i did it anyway. But still spotify was opening web player and asking me to instal an app. So I deleted cache from safari 🙂 now I dont have web player at all. Instead I see "bad gateway 505". I can't open spotify from facebook. please change that.

Got to 100 Kudos! Thanks everyone who added their support! 😄

This should have been featured from the start! It's super annoying that the music in the desktop client pauses and the music in the spotify starts playing, and then you have to wait for the controls to load before you can stop the web player.

Also, why does it ask me to install Spotify? I already have it - that's why I clicked the link in the first place!

Status changed to: Implemented

Update Mai 2017:

This idea has been reposted here: Choose to open Links in the Desktop or Web Player

Now, there's an option inside the Web Player settings to choose where the links are opened.

And just to prove it, here's a screenshot!

Gottn

Richard, It doesnt work for me. Link's still opens in Web-player.

Richard

That's strange, Gottn. Have you cleared your cookies or anything like that recently? (And which version of the desktop app are you using?)

Doesent work for me either, and say your having a party and want to make a collaborative playlist, Its very very complicated to explain to every one who recived it as a link opened in webplayer that they have to click on my name from the webplayer, and then on the playlists name, and finnaly save it before they collaborate their songs
