[Desktop] Restore Cache Location Specification

I run on a machine with a small SSD for my OS and critical applications.

In previous versions of Spotify I have set my cache to my larger hard drive. Now this is no longer possible.

Now I am constantly having to manually clear my cache and am unable to specify where I want the files to be kept.

This needs to be restored.

Updated: 2015-07-08

Hey everyone, this feature is returning in the 1.0.9 Desktop update. That update is currently rolling out and should reach everyone quite soon.

Yeah!!!

You guys are Awesome

The idea with the Ram i also Like but for me is the way from David  the best, dont need to install other software.
Spotify should add the Ram as savefolder! i dont think its also good for my hdd, ram should be the perfect way for people with fast web 🙂

I had just a few problems i will fix, go to C:\Windows\System32 and start cmd.exe as admin.

mklink "%LocalAppData%\Spotify" /d Z:\AppData\Spotify

Ok i actually dont know the change to \ is important or not, i first get an error and change this at first,

after this i still have a problem and had to draw up the folder i use...

After all, its works 🙂 this little thing and spotify fail it ... whats happend ? (Sorry for my english;)

Did you uninstall Spotify first?

Do you have a second harddrive, becayse Z:\AppData\spotify is a folder on a drive with drive letter Z.

If you don't have a second harddrive this is not an option.

I can confirm that the method by DavidDeSloovere works. I had no need to uninstall Spotify, though. As I had DataRam Ramdisk installed as the drive :R I just made a symbolic link there: mklink "%LocalAppData%/Spotify" /d R:\AppData\Spotify

Just make sure that you have that folder ;).

I Uninstall Spotify first...

I put it on my HDD(second harddrive), so i just change Z to D ^^

are you an idiot? "small SSD with large storage" what did you think the
large storage was, a storage locker maybe? A big bag we can print the files
and put them in for easy access?...

IM MAD! THIS OPTION SHOULD HAVE NOT BEEN REMOVED IN THE FIRST PLACE!

Like everyone, I have an SSD as my primary drive and has a very limited space in it. With all my music save offline, SPOTIFY is eating up almost 30% of my SSD space without my knowledge!

Give us the option to save offline files to another drive!

GAWD! Does anyone from the spotify team have no SSD on their computer?!

THIS IS EXASPERATING!

Maybe try this:

Open %AppData%\Spotify\prefs file in Notepad

and change storage.location="(your path)"

I've only just 'upgraded' to the latest version, this is enough to make me cancel my premium subscription ...

When Spotify came out (even more into?) of beta, I was astonished that this feature was not present.

Why?  Why would you remove this feature?

This is making a static attribute into a variable one with a UI text box in the settings panel.  GUYS - this is coding 101.  This is the stuff I learned when I was 13, messing around with Visual Basic 3.  I know, I know - you have to consider all platforms before making a change because for some reason you went to slow webviews instead of fast native applications, but this is not rocket science.  You have three months to execute this or you all will lose YET ANOTHER customer because of the horrendous screw-up that is 1.0.x.

I just wanted to add to the chorus of voices saying that you people at Spotify are stupid. Bring back this feature, morons. Now, while I'm paying.
