[Desktop] Restore Cache Location Specification

I run on a machine with a small SSD for my OS and critical applications.

In previous versions of Spotify I have set my cache to my larger hard drive. Now this is no longer possible.

Now I am constantly having to manually clear my cache and am unable to specify where I want the files to be kept.

This needs to be restored.

Updated: 2015-07-08

Hey everyone, this feature is returning in the 1.0.9 Desktop update. That update is currently rolling out and should reach everyone quite soon.

Seriously!? After updating I was going through the settings for about 20 minutes thinking that I must have lost my mind!

Now I cannot use Spotify Premium for the only reason I pay for this service, which is listening to my music at any time, no matter if there is an internet connection or not!

I hope this matter gets handled rather quickly because I surely won't stand by doing nothing while Spotify eats through my SSD space until there isn't even enough space left for a bigger Windows update.

Again:

Ridding the client of this option renders Spotify (in my case) useless, because I can't use the one feature I pay money for and if this doesn't get taken care of within the next 14 days I'll have to cancel my subscription, which is a shame, since I have always loved it...

As luck would have it, I didn't realize this was an actual thing until I had the pleasure of doing a system reformat.  Lo and behold, when I installed the client and tried to setup my secondairy drive for delicious music downloads, there's no more secondairy drive support anymore!

I cycle through songs very quickly and listen to large lists, therefore streaming (even with prime) is out of the question.  I, like many other people who compute things, have a small 120gb operating system SSD drive and then many large secondairy, spinny harddrives of death.  In my experience, installing and tieing those secondairy harddrives up with program installation files makes them rather ornery and weighs on my inner conscience.  After the eventual bloodbath ensues, I'm left wondering why...  This could have all been avoided if you'd had let me give them the cache...  Those heartless beasts may be volatile, and it pains me to use them, but I need those super fast, spinny drives of DEATH.

...for computer gaming and design work.

Back to seriousness though.  I just want to mention that without fail, I've mentioned other people, something I hate about the Spotify update every day since it was released.  I'm not doing it on purpose either.  I'm completely abscent minded when it happens.  I just realized it now when I started typing this.  These were necessairy features you already had at one point but decided to remove for whatever reason.  I don't know about the Devs but most people notice  and talk about these things.

Also CTRL+F

I rarely cuss in feedback but come on... This **bleep**'s like, basic 1997 WinAmp style problems people are complaining about...

...At least give us the option to rollback the desktop client.

Come on spotify ... stop talking, stop holding out!

There are enough bugs you have to handle.

Remember:

- Being premium memeber is not a togetherness to play with my desktop ressources.

- Don't feel too sure!

Fix it right away or you lose our complete family!

I'm really angry at spotify right now because if this missbehavior.

Thinking seriously to cancel my suscription and use google music or another provider that knows how to improve software instead bothering all the costumers base with this very poor desing choices and competely lack of vision.

the one that sugested this wonderful idea of taking out choices of customization within  the Spotify app should be fired ASAP.

This isn't a case of "It'd me nice if this was here", more a case of "I literally can't use the new Spotify until this is back". My SSD, and also C: drive. I have limited space left, so installing the new spotify on it makes me actually run out of memory.    This has to come back, or i'll be forced to move to a different streamer.  (For now I have downgraded to an older version of spotify)

While you're at it, why not give us the option to manually choose the installation folder for spotify? The AppData folder just does not make any sense for installing a program and it does give me serious rights related issues. C:/Program Files/ should be the standard installation folder and we should be able to manually choose to install it somewhere else.

I agree with deds7ven. I have a 128gb ssd that runs my OS and programs...but the other 2.5 Terrabytes are dedicated to the games and music that those programs actually use. If the Spotify team is unable to program for the PC and its nuances then I'll gladly switch to someone who will.

Did they think my PC was an apple tablet? Did they think that options make for a bad user experience? I thought that's why they hid "advanced" options.

I've been using spotify since it first was available in the US, and have gotten a lot of people to sign up, but any more absurd oversimplification and I'm gone. Witht hat said, I suggested that spotify make it easy to search by genre and they honestly emailed me and said "maybe one day we'll make an app for that!" yeah like google, itunes, pandora, amazon and every.single.other.music.program.

Good luck spot! Try to keep your users.

 we need this back, thanks

I became a premium member switching from itunes As per the others, i discovered my cache file was clogging up the SSD and impacting gaming performance. The concept of cache in tablets or apple boxes would suit this fine. They both manage storage differently windows boxes, specifically gamer boxes either use SSD of the newer flash memory for the OS and core gaming apps. Music has no place on that expensive hardware. I know it is your entire world and we only purchased computers to install spotify.... Do the majority of people care where the cache is: no Do gamers prefer gaming or listening to music: trick question, we like to listen to music while gaming what will gamers do if the music player interferes with their game: disable/uninstall it, write nasty blogs or posts How many of your developers are real gamers: zero, if you had one it would have already been fixed.

p.s. is it embarrassing that someone will switch back to itunes to reduce impact to gaming performance? I am sure Apple will love that.
