Implement an actual shuffle function

Yes, you read that right.  The "shuffle" function in Spotify is nothing more than a randomizer.  There's a difference?  YES.

RANDOM - Play one song.  The next song can be ANY song in your playlist.  Including the one you just listened to.  Though I've never had this specifically happen, I literally just heard the same song that I heard 2 songs ago.  This is how Spotify's "shuffle" currently functions.

SHUFFLE - Take your entire list, shuffle them (like cards), and play the first song in the shuffle.  Once finished, move that song off the pile.  Once the pile is depleted, shuffle the deck again and start over (maybe pop a message up).

I know enough about programming (not much) to know that shuffling is probably a bit harder than random, but come on.  I may be in the minority, but I don't have a lot of little playlists.  I have one list with nearly a thousand songs in it, because I like all the music, and am rarely not in the mood for one of those songs.  But what I can't stand is hearing the same song over and over again.  I think there may even be songs in my list I haven't heard yet, while I've heard others 4-5 times.

I know it may not matter much, but I would probably lay down the money for at least a year subscription if this feature was implemented.

EDIT: Another user pointed out that I can see what all is queued up in my shuffle by clicking the Play Queue link, and that Spotify supposedly sets up a rolling shuffle of 50 songs.  It would be nice if this range could be expanded to say 50-100% of your playlist.

EDIT 4/6/12: I just dealt with the same song 16 tracks later.  The song played the first time yesterday afternoon.  I went home, listened for a bit on my home PC (just a few songs), then started listening again this morning.  If the list recycles itself after a day, or if you log in from another computer, I see that as an area for improvement.

Hey everyone,

We wanted to add some more context to the changes that have taken place in case anyone stumbles upon this idea. We've introduced the Fewer Repeats shuffling option, which takes your recent listening history into account and can be found in Settings - Playback - Shuffle mode. Check out this For the Record post for more info.

Once again, thanks for helping us make Spotify better, by participating here on the Community!

As a longtime iPod user before my iPhone took its place, I've always used the 'Shuffle Songs" button, even now when my library on iTunes is at 15000 songs. On my mac, on spotify on the songs list (all songs in my library), the shuffle play only does a small chunk of my songs. If I have it sorted by date added, it will only shuffle songs for the past couple weeks (not sure exact time frame). If I have the songs sorted by A-Z, the shuffle only plays A songs. This is weak compared to iTunes.

Also remove "Implemented" status from this thread, and make it receive likes again.

I have a list of over 1000 songs, after about 30 songs it starts repeating the songs, and by the way it's always the same songs even on different days...

I've posted about how crappy that so-called shuffle, randomize, whatever function was about two years ago now, and this is still a **beep** joke.

I wrote "Guys @ Spotiy, either you have no idea what "random" and "shuffle" are all about, or you don't care, or you have a hidden agenda, and I don't know which one is more frustrating", and now I really believe you have a hidden agenda about it, like forcing some songs into the list and leaving others out.

Anybody can recommend a way to quickly switch (transfer all tagged songs) from Spotify to another service like Apple Music, Deezer, or Tidal ?

Except that will not work with Google Home and similar where the issue is most prevalent.

The solution is to implement a basic random play feature while they work on their shuffle fearture.

I realised that if I listen to a specific band for a while and then go into a playlist with that band in it, that band will not be played at all. I listened to Animals As Leaders only for a few days and now I felt like listening to a playlist with them in it. I checked the queue and I didn't see an Animals As Leaders in the ENTIRE thing. I've only got about 225 songs in that playlist and 50 Animals As Leaders songs, so I chould get 1 in almost 4, but no. Not even 1 in 50. I hate this, if I can change it somewhere tell me please, or change it or something. Thank you

Still horrible.  Mostly plays newly added stuff to my list. And with 10k songs it plays the same artist over and over again. Screenshot_20180306-185148.jpg
