Integrate HTML5 with play.spotify.com

With the new Xbox one coming out and it not supporting flash, I believe Spotify needs to revamp their play.spotify.com site to support HTML5 also, flash is a bit old, isn't it? I think this will greatly improve the experience on the site as well. <br><br>Thank you.

As Chrome continue to kill off flash this is going to become a bigger issue. In the meantime you can grant the Spotfify web player an exception - see this workaround.

Spotify team, Why do you keep acting like someone, except you guys, would like to use Adobe Flash!? We (Spotify Users) have been complaining about it since 2013 and yet nothing has been done about it so far. If it's due to copyrights, just explain to us that's the reason. Don't keep using a template to answer these threads and contact forms that we often send. Also, as many users have already said, the Adobe Flash is being killed little by little, it's becoming outdated. Most of the browsers today allow the user to disable Flash in order to have a better surfing experience and for security reasons as well as java (which is not on the topic).

I can't believe this is almost three years old. 

My company just disabled flash across the board, and to be honest as a security professional I think it should have been done ages ago. That said, the one reason I was keeping flash was Spotify, and now I can't listen to spotify in the office. 

Either this gets sorted out or I guess I'll have to start looking into alternatives to Spotify. Seems a shame, but whatever - if you cared about us web player users presumably you'd have done something about this by now.

Staying with Flash, and not implementing HTML5 is a very efficient way to lose customers. Now even more since Chrome Browser is going to stop using Flash.

I wouldn't even be surprised if Spotify starts recommending to using IE

using chrome, flash on spotify's web-player is frustrating as I need to allow for the use of flash, and I need to do this everytime (not able to "always allow" for spotify...)

Flash is almost dead. Sure, this technology was a non-plus-ultra back the days but with todays web technology it shouldn't be this difficult to migrate the web player to html5 so no Flash is needed anymore. What I wonder most is the fact, that this topic is active nearly 4 years and nothing - really nothing - happend. I understand that the music needs to be in some way secured via DRM but why does this only seem to be a problem for Spotify but not Google Play Music and other services which are using a non-Flash version quite some time now.

Please, Spotify developers. Instead of messing with the UI over and over again - how about bundle your ressources to work on things like this? Thank you 🙂

 I highly doubt it has anything to do with playing the tracks - web developer myself - as HTML5 is more than capable for media playback and cryptography and encryption abilities these days.

My money is it is actually entirely for advertising. Nearly all advertisers still use flash for their advertisers, and as that is how Spotify does it, you wouldn't want to bite the hand that feeds you, so alienating users is better than alienating customers.

Spotify will need to get rid of flash. I hope this won't mean the web player will be shut down. Spotify MUST communicate a date at which it will get rid of flash, and reassure users about the continued existence of the web player.
