Integrate HTML5 with play.spotify.com

With the new Xbox one coming out and it not supporting flash, I believe Spotify needs to revamp their play.spotify.com site to support HTML5 also, flash is a bit old, isn't it? I think this will greatly improve the experience on the site as well. <br><br>Thank you.

Hey everyone! We can confirm this very popular idea is now fully implemented.  The new Web Player uses HTML5 technologies solely. Thanks for your continued feedback in the Idea Exchange!

Most importantly they would provide for rapid development of basic
streaming functionality apps for these platforms as well. In my case it is
a Samsung Blu-ray player that runs Opera OS.

It is not that hard to write an encrypted CDN client in Javascript. Google
has one for Webvine. If you are lazy you probac0bly could license thier
tech, or even use thier cloud services.

Could we have an answer about HTML update status ?

The iOS and Android versions don't use Flash. I don't see why their code
can't be compiled to asm.js.

It ahould not be hard to run without flash.

This stream processing using Javascript is the recommended alternative to
encrypted media extensions. It is called media source extensions, where
the output of a client side script is used as the media stream source.

Encrypted media extensions are currently available on Chrome, Opera and
Firefox, and probably should be used when available sinply because they
have better performance and lower system requirements.

So no matter what we're voting they still can't do it?

I also stopped my paid subscription in January 2017, because of the Flash
issue.

Status changed to: Watch this space

Hey @Stigmata we're happy to say your idea now has the status 'Watch This Space'. We're currently rolling out an udpated version of the web player that fully supports HTML5. Keep an eye here for more updates. Thanks!

@meahtenoha

It seems this has been implemented now? I am using it in Opera on Debian 8. Flash is currently broken in Debian but the Spotify web player seems to work absolutely fine! Great work!

@JetBerg

Better late than never, but still, it's nice to say thanks isn't it? Maybe comments like "where [has] humanity gone wrong" should be self-reflective?
