[Mobile] [Other] Smart Shuffle toggle setting in settings menu

Smart shuffle is a fun way to discover new songs, but it comes at a cost. Want to reshuffle your queue? Bam, wait a few seconds longer. Want to unshuffle your playlist? Bam, no longer works, and goes to a completely random place in the playlist.

To me this is an unwanted complication, and I'd much rather be able to choose in the settings menu whether I want to enable the Smart Shuffle feature, or disable it.

Hey folks,

We're excited to announce that you can now toggle whether Smart Shuffle is available on your mobile apps!

  1. Tap your profile picture at the top.
  2. Tap Settings and privacy.
  3. Select Playback.
  4. Switch Enable all play modes off and you're good to go!

Cheers & many thanks for your input 🙂 Stay tuned for new updates 🙌🏼

I HATE the smart shuffle feature!! WORST feature ever.. really annoying!!!!

appalling

what would be sooo easy for you to do, and is so annoying that you don't do already, is to just take the input before doing the work. It's so so so so so so so so so so so frustrating to have to wait 3 seconds everytime between taps, knowing that the only way to take it away is to tap again, and it would be so easy to just let me tap it immediately. It needs to be instatnt. it feels broken and awful. Idk how it's possible that it doesn't work like this w all the designers u have

I do not like smart shuffle! Please, nobody has commented in 2 years here but I'm obviously not the only one who would like a toggle in the settings to disable smart shuffle entirely. Please make this an option 🙏🙏🙏

I would even be open to a prompt at the beginning of each listening session.

Please add a setup toggle/switch to disable Smart Shuffle Recommendations. Don't want them. Don't need them ever. This would also prevent the occasional bug that enables Smart Shuffle automagically.

  1. This is just another example of Spotify over-reach. My father once said "if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it"... We all know what we like to listen to and when and importantly what we don't want to listen to. Are children working for Spotify Marketing at the moment? Stop treating us like kids. We're all perfectly capable of pushing a mode button when we need to make a switch. I can only assume it's part of a drive for more $$$ by Spotify. God I wish there was an alternative.!!

Anyone else recently been having the issue of shuffle/smart shuffle turning itself back on after a song finishes and having to disabling it just for it to turn back on after one song finishes? This is extremely fu€#ing annoying!

  • Anyone else recently been having the issue of shuffle/smart shuffle turning itself back on after a song finishes and having to disabling it just for it to turn back on after one song finishes or jump to a specific song without fail in a playlist of thousands when shuffle is turned off? This is extremely fu€#ing annoying!

For me, Smart Shuffle is at best a minor inconvenience. I have my own ways of finding new music. I like having control over my music. I understand the value of Smart Shuffle for some people. The fact that this feature changes what the shuffle button does gets infuriating.

I do want to point out that the shuffle button has had the exact same functionality everywhere for at least 25 years now! For a quarter of a century, the shuffle button has done the same thing everywhere: iTunes, Spotify, YouTube Music, CD players, even late Walkmans - all had the same functionality for the shuffle button. It's baffling to me that Spotify has changed it. This isn't an improvement; its a nuisance.

I share my opinion with the first comment... I came on here to leave a post and thankfully see I’m not alone. The smart shuffle feature drives me mad. Why implement something that would interrupt the user’s experience like that. Get rid!!!!
