Smart shuffle is a fun way to discover new songs, but it comes at a cost. Want to reshuffle your queue? Bam, wait a few seconds longer. Want to unshuffle your playlist? Bam, no longer works, and goes to a completely random place in the playlist.

To me this is an unwanted complication, and I'd much rather be able to choose in the settings menu whether I want to enable the Smart Shuffle feature, or disable it.

Smart Shuffle is a buggy, laggy feature. I routinely want to toggle between linear/shuffle. Smart shuffle adds an annoying extra step that lags the app while Spotify attempts to add new 'smart' recommendations. Just make this a separate button, or change the toggle for it to something separate.

The whole point of a user generated playlist is you are actively selecting which songs you want to hear. By adding a smart shuffle feature (and making it a premium feature to turn on/off), you are adding songs that users did not want to hear. I think this is an awful feature and honestly should not be only for users with a subscription to turn off. It should be a feature that users with or without a subscription have access to.

Mine turns itself back on after every song and it's driving me insane. I make my own playlists for a reason. This is making me want to go to another app for my music.

I HATE the smart shuffle! I have been a premium paid user since 2015. I should be allowed to permanently turn off smart shuffle! I don't even want the ability to hit the shuffle button and have smart shuffle popup. When i hit shuffle, i ONLY want shuffle of the songs in the playlist that i meticulously put together over the years!

Spotify needs to cut the **bleep**! Stop forcing features that a majority of paid users don't want!

I think this should be turned into a toggle in settings, I often find that it bugs out and even though I have selected regular shuffle, after a few songs a random song will pop up and I'll look at Spotify to find it is back on smart shuffle. Please implement a toggle, I do not want smart shuffle forced onto me, and will end up moving to another streaming service if this keeps messing with my listening time.

I particularly enjoy the way its made my listening experience worse by being enabled by default and adding absolute trash to my usual playlists.

It's right up there with being endlessly nagged to buy duo and having to hunt around for features that used to be the first thing you see when you open the app but have since been hidden away in an attempt to make me interested in "courses" or the atrocious AI dj as my favourite new development in "corporate wonk thinks everyone will love this" land.

If you could just keep pumping more garbage into the service until I'm eventually motivated to move to one that just plays music and podcasts, that'd be great. It'll save me a tenner a month.

Why is this "feature" the first option when I try to enable shuffle? It's incredibly annoying. And as others note, even when you switch to real shuffle it still often ends up "accidentally" going back to smart shuffle.

Dear Spotify: the place for 'smart shuffle':

is NOT

in personal playlists,

is NOT

turned ON by default,

is NOT

visually indistinguishable from regular 'shuffle',

is NOT

something which must be escaped from in order to use personal playlists as they're intended.

You understand this, right?!?
