Smart shuffle is a fun way to discover new songs, but it comes at a cost. Want to reshuffle your queue? Bam, wait a few seconds longer. Want to unshuffle your playlist? Bam, no longer works, and goes to a completely random place in the playlist.

To me this is an unwanted complication, and I'd much rather be able to choose in the settings menu whether I want to enable the Smart Shuffle feature, or disable it.

Dear Spotify Mod, wearing what seems to be a blindfold: PLEASE READ: Creating a personal playlist, is, well, a personal expression—not a community effort. A ‘PERSONAL’ playlist, is NOT a place to cram some rando’s suggestions/reccos. A ‘PERSONAL’ playlist, is also NOT a collaboration with an algorithm. Selecting, curating and then sharing a playlist is a VERY personal project. Frequently, created with some measure of love and care. Spotify, your ‘Smart’ Shuffle feature has clearly generated more than 7,000 community comments from upset Spotify users, on over 100 pages, plus the many who have never logged in to make a comment.

Please respond and update us on your thoughts, plans and efforts, is a sensible way, within the next few days.

**Update: I see that the default state, on my iPhone, is now set to whatever I had set in the previous session, namely, 'Smart' shuffle OFF, but it IS still there as an option, and the 'Smart' shuffle icon remains essentially indistinguishable from the 'Shuffle' icon.

I would like to disable smart shuffle aswell. Please add an option in settings to disable it completely!

Does anyone know of any ongoing social media posts or videos about getting rid of "smart shuffle"? We're 106 pages in on this thread and we've gotten not even the slightest acknowledgement. Feels like lighting Spotify up on social would be more effective at this point if they're going to keep ignoring us.

I have come to the conclusion that Spotify makes money by bombarding us with unwanted music. Why else would they make such an invasive system - and why else are they not listening to us? Even though we pay, our control over the music we love is sabotaged and we live under constant threat of having our playlists destroyed.

Totally agree with everyone!  Smart shuffle needs to be an option ONLY.  That can be disabled if you want.

After a lengthy back and forth a Spotify member of staff confirmed to me that as many users here suspected, it is “in Spotify’s best interest” to not allow users a permanent option to disable the smart shuffle. 

The feature will not be implemented, apologies everyone. Save your breath.
