[Mobile] [Other] Smart Shuffle toggle setting in settings menu

Smart shuffle is a fun way to discover new songs, but it comes at a cost. Want to reshuffle your queue? Bam, wait a few seconds longer. Want to unshuffle your playlist? Bam, no longer works, and goes to a completely random place in the playlist.

To me this is an unwanted complication, and I'd much rather be able to choose in the settings menu whether I want to enable the Smart Shuffle feature, or disable it.

Hey folks,

We're excited to announce that you can now toggle whether Smart Shuffle is available on your mobile apps!

  1. Tap your profile picture at the top.
  2. Tap Settings and privacy.
  3. Select Playback.
  4. Switch Enable all play modes off and you're good to go!

Cheers & many thanks for your input 🙂 Stay tuned for new updates 🙌🏼

you seriously only gave mobile the option, whoever made that decision is a moron. how dense do you have to be to only give it to mobile users considering you have thousands of people complaining about it across every platform? youre pushing away users who arent asking for much, just give us the option to disable it in the settings so we dont have to go through the glitchy mess it causes from cycling between non shuffled, normal shuffle, and your braindead "smart" shuffle. if the feature makes the application glitch out to the point we have to completely restart the app for it to maybe fix itself, then its a bad feature. do better.

It has to be added to the desktop as well, Current implementation is awful and makes turning the shuffle on and off an absolute mess. The behavior of the shuffle button on windows seems almost random, The faster you click, the more undeterministic the end result is (in the contrary to the old, "smart" free button).

You've turned one of the most basic operation (on/off button) to a total pain in the ass - an incredible achievement. Not one to be proud of though.

Thank you for adding the feature on mobile.

Now add it for desktop.

Thanks.

Every Spotify update, the app gets worse 🙂 I've had my account for almost 10 years and I will be switching to Apple Music if they don't make the app better for the amount of money we pay. If anyone working at Spotify is reading, can I suggest you beta test or actually ask us, the users, what we want before you just dump the update on us? The UX has gotten so bad, it seems like you're trying to get rid of paying subscribers. Smart Shuffle is a great starting place - I hate it and it is so annoying to work around. I hate it so much I am taking the time out of my day to write about how much I hate it. I would literally give unpaid feedback to Spotify about what sucks about the subscription service/app because I feel so passionately about this.

Thanks

If you turn on the smart shuffle (I didn't turn it on, but had to pass through it on the way from shuffle to no shuffle) then the smart shuffle stays on and can't be turned off.  This is true on the desktop and Android versions.  Please fix.

THIS ISSUE IS NOT CLOSED OR RESOLVED: AS OF JUNE 17, 2025//THIS IS A BLATANTLY MISLEADING POST - IT DOES NOT ADDRESS THE BUG W/I SPOTIFY THAT IS THE 'smart shuffle' SETTING IN GENERAL - NOR THE CURRENTLY OUTSTANDING REMAINING PROBLEM OF 'smart shuffle' ON THE DESKTOP. DISABLE THIS TIME WASTING POS NOW.

Still here in June 2025, and this whole Smart Shuffle mess is exactly as broken as ever. I want my playlists in my order, not forced machine learning. Spotify already added a global toggle… but it does nothing to fix the delay or the messed‑up queue. Pressing shuffle still buffers, still misorders tracks, and still hijacks the experience I paid for. If Spotify is listening, an option to fully disable Smart Shuffle and restore classic shuffle behavior instantly is long overdue. Otherwise, you’re going to keep losing premium users.
