[Social] Block Followers

I believe there should be a way to block people that are following you on Spotify. When blocked, the user will automatically unfollow you and will not be able to find you, or view your public playlists.

Blocking should be possible via both username and email address.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for coming to the Ideas Exchange, and sharing your votes and comments.

We’re pleased to confirm that all users now have the option to block another user on Spotify. With this update, you can actively block another user across desktop and mobile devices, preventing them from being able to see listening activity, public playlists, or view profile pages.

Here’s how it works:

  • When visiting another user’s profile, click on the   (...) button.
  • Select “Block” (or “Block User” on mobile) to block the user whose profile you are viewing.
  • This user will now be blocked and cannot access your page, public playlists or view your listening activity.
  • To unblock a user, click the Unblock option in the same menu.

We're always working hard to provide the best possible Spotify experience in a safe environment.

Please see here for more information.

The simple fact is until they start losing enough users over the issue they won't care.

You're absolutely right about this. The only way to do this right now is to
delete your account and create a new one. But it won't stop someone from
starting to follow you. I'm actually waiting until I get my surname changed
to do this, so I won't ever, ever have to look at my sick ex again.

I have decided to stop paying for Spotify

1: they couldn't even give me an extention how is that hard

2: they won't even add a simple feature

so untill then i'm taking my money else where

I echo the statement below, and that of I'm sure thousands and maybe more Spotify users. It is completely ridiculous that you cannot block followers on Spotify. Every other social media and music service has this option. It is the most basic functionality. Let users BLOCK unwanted usesr who try to follow their profile (not just playlists).

"I've been a happy paying customer for over three years now. Not being able to control who are following me and keeping me in control of my own privacy is making me consider switching to another company for the first time. I actually considered just shutting down the account at once when I noticed this, but I like Spotify so much that I'm willing to give them some time (I'm talking days - not weeks) to fix this issue. When it comes to companies that misuses my privacy in this way I have zero tolerance. It's just not acceptable.

Please Spotify - fix this issue."

Just wanted to add my teo cents. I would like to block an ex as well. It sucks that I have to make all of my lists private just so one person can't see it.

I haven't used the following features at all until recently, and immediately the problem is that there is no way to control how publically things are shared - it seems it is either everything or nothing at my profile level. And that's a problem - I've signed up for the family premium subscription and we want to be able to follow each other and publish updates, but without any control over who else can see those we are very reluctant to do so. Either a way of approving followers that want to follow us (ideally) or at least the ability to remove and block unwanted followers (acceptable) would be very, very much appreciated and allow us to get even more enjoyment out of this otherwise great app!

I feel that ideally, there should be a quite granular level of control of exactly who can see what in your profile, maybe similar to how Facebook has implemented it. I realize that's probably not very highly prioritized though.

However, wouldn't it be reasonable to at least add a simple feature through which you are allowed to simply remove a follower that you don't want to be associated with anymore? This thread should be evidence enough that there are plenty of very legitimate reasons of personal and/or sensitive character, for why this feature would be very much appreciated by some of your users.
