[Web Player] Bring back the old Web Player

The minimalism of the web player makes it near unusable (self.spotify)

submitted 2 minutes ago by MovkeyB

Here is a list of basic stuff that got removed:

  • See the radio
  • See the queue
  • See the song length
  • see how far in the song you are

Here is stuff that got destroyed in terms of functionality.

  • adding a song to a playlist is now a lot more difficult and requires moving a lot more bc it opens up a HUGE window instead of the little menu

  • The volume slider is not live, its drag and drop so you can't hear the effect of the volume change in real time

Everything is HUGE and they just seem to love all the dead space and tell me pretty much nothing about whats going on.

It's atrocious. I've used it for about 10 minutes and I already despise it with a burning passion. These things I mentioned are just the ones that are just immediately obvious because I USE THEM FREQUENTLY

Updated on 2019-06-25

Hey folks,

We're just going through a few older ideas that we haven't updated.

Most of the functionality listed in the original post exists on the Web Player. The queue can be found in the bottom right corner near the Volume bar and you can find Radio by clicking the three dots next to any song, album or playlist.

If you have any new ideas you'd like to see on the webplayer, feel to submit them here.

Thanks!

If you are using Chome, download the "Chome UA Spoofer" extension and switch to Internet Explorer 10. After this, make sure you go to play.spotify.com rather than open.spotify.com and you'll get the old UI back.

PS: Spotify, this update is bad and you should feel bad. **bleep**ty UI and wasted space aside, what did you think you were accomplishing by stripping out important features?

The new webplayer is horrendous!! Will they just please change it back and fire the designer?

I feel like a grandma with the new layout. Huge pictures? Why?

Seems the shift doesn't allow ad blocker to block ads- looks like I need to find a new music service that works with my ad blocker.

The new webplayer is horrendous! Can they please change it back and fire the designer already?

kazimoftarsus

they should bring last.fm back to the web design

I love the new update, but it comes with problems. It has constant connection errors and gateway timeouts, the radio is extremely hard to use and I hate how if you like a song it saves it to my songs. And I have to repeatedly have to refresh the page in order to play songs. I love the way the update looks but please fix these bugs.

I use the web player at work. its asking me to install an application. I can't ITS AT WORK you idiots. What was wrong with the web player before that you changed it to this new **bleep**.

i am rather unimpressed with the new update. when searching songs/artists the wording must be exact or it will not appear. also when searching artists, you can only see 5 songs, after these top 5 songs to get any more you must select a specific album, and you can only play one album at a time. you cannot shuffe your playlists. you cannot see number of followers. you cannot see the popularity of a song. you can no longer see the queue of songs, or add songs to queue. i also dont like the new layout, but thats just a personal preference. there are some things im sure i will grow used to, but this 'update' seems like a decline in the perks of spotify rather than an improvement.

Not happy with the new update.

No more queue.

Can't sort songs by name.

Can't sort songs by artists.

Can't delete playlist.

Can't clear recently played.

Search sucks.

I agree with everything jaimietheimbeci said.

Not a huge fan of the new layout, but I wouldn't care as long as it had the same functionality!

Where are radios?

Why can't I see all the songs for an artist?

I don't want to have to navigate by album.

Grr.
