[Web Player] Bring back the old Web Player

The minimalism of the web player makes it near unusable (self.spotify)

submitted 2 minutes ago by MovkeyB

Here is a list of basic stuff that got removed:

  • See the radio
  • See the queue
  • See the song length
  • see how far in the song you are

Here is stuff that got destroyed in terms of functionality.

  • adding a song to a playlist is now a lot more difficult and requires moving a lot more bc it opens up a HUGE window instead of the little menu

  • The volume slider is not live, its drag and drop so you can't hear the effect of the volume change in real time

Everything is HUGE and they just seem to love all the dead space and tell me pretty much nothing about whats going on.

It's atrocious. I've used it for about 10 minutes and I already despise it with a burning passion. These things I mentioned are just the ones that are just immediately obvious because I USE THEM FREQUENTLY

Updated on 2019-06-25

Hey folks,

We're just going through a few older ideas that we haven't updated.

Most of the functionality listed in the original post exists on the Web Player. The queue can be found in the bottom right corner near the Volume bar and you can find Radio by clicking the three dots next to any song, album or playlist.

If you have any new ideas you'd like to see on the webplayer, feel to submit them here.

Thanks!

I had over 100 songs saved in my songs. All of them are gone. I am about to delete this. Nothing was wrong or broken with the old verson, so why "fix" it? Fixing things that aren't broken, breaks them. I was a lover of spotify, telling all Pandora people to get spotify. Now your app is literal garbage. You all ruined my night. All i wanted to do was listen to songs that I saved, that i liked, but you had to ruin it. Fix this now broken all to how it used to be. Fix the broken and let be the fixed.

I don't understand why these features were removed:

  • Sorting under "Your Music" -- the music I've saved appears in a seemingly random order instead of alphabetically, and I can't choose to sort it by date added, like I could in the previous version. What order is it supposed to be in now?
  • A list of songs on the Artist pages -- when I go to an artist page and play music, I can only see 5 songs. I used to be able to see the top 10, and then every album. Why are the rest of the songs hidden? It was nice to play all songs and set it to random, previously.
  • The current playlist -- if I chose to play an album, why can't I see what's next?
  • The play queue -- can't I queue up music from multiple artists anymore?
  • Related artists -- I can't see related artists when listing to an artist anymore?

I'm really disappointed with this update. I'm hoping there aren't more missing features that I haven't noticed yet. I'm glad to see "Your daily mix" has been added to the web player, at least. I switched from Pandora becuase of the flexibility in Spotify, but I don't have that anymore.

I believe that the newest update is terrible. First of all, you can't add songs to your "mixes". I liked the fact that I could continue to add songs to my playlists and that there was never a limit to how many songs. Second, you have to "like" certain artists in order to make new mixes, instead of the previous process, in which you can add whatever songs you want to create a playlist. I don't think this update was beneficial or helpful in any way. It is confusing and frustrating. I'd appreciate it if we could go back to how it was previously before the newest update.

Plus Artist list is some order, but what order completely mistifies me. Alphabetical ususally works pretty nice.As stated above I want features, and lots of it. I'm not paying for this **bleep**.

I think that the new interface is more atractive than the older UI, but they have implemented it in an early way, because with the new version it's imposible to access to the queue, is impossible to change the name of a playlist and neither can to delete the search history.

I don't hate the new design, but please Spotify Team, don't implement it if doesn't have ALL the features that the older version has.

It is just the worst update I've ever seen.

It's ugly, doesn't work properly.

You can't save Playlists by Album name.

It is **bleep**ing ugly!!

It is incredible messy. You can't find what you want.

Just roll this **bleep**ing **bleep** back and act like nothing has happend!

Yeah, I agree the new layout is nice and modern looking but it has way less functionality and makes it way harder to find what you need. The old web player was great and it was one of the main reasons I used Spotify as opposed to its competitors. It was well organized and was sectioned off by the taskbar on the left-hand side. All the space on your screen was filled with music and it was quick and easy to switch between different sections of the player. Also, the new web player seems to have ditched the idea of queuing songs, one of the best features of Spotify in the first place. Please bring back the old web player. I know that Spotify still has it because when I logged in it came up with the old web player and then quickly switched straight back to the new one so please either change it back or at least let users use the old one if they want.

I second this... Not having sort in my playlist is extremely frustrating!

The new layout is a ridiculously large downgrade from the previous one. It literally improves nothing and makes everything objectively worse. I can't believe anyone thought this was a good idea. Did you hire everyone that got fired from Pepsi?

I unsubscribed from Premium. The new layout is barely navigable, I'm definitely not going to pay extra for it. I'm sure other people are feeling the same way.

Figure your life out, Spotify.

The one smart and bright spot in music streaming is getting dumbed down and dulled.

I am a premium payer. And still I have to suffer a crappy oversized icon view of my playlists instead of the list we had before. No queue? Really? Are you going to change the install version too? I will do everything in my power to not update the installed version. It is versatile and useful. You are ruining a good thing.
