[iOS] Siri Integration

Instead of Siri Integration in the way this post is requesting, Siri Shortcuts Support would be far more useful and beneficial to the users, and easier for Spotify to implement. Please vote for this idea instead:

Now that Apple has announced an API for developers to have access to Siri, it would great if Spotify supported it, as well as announcing Siri support in the update release notes instead of the worthless "We're always making changes and improvements to Spotify" messages, that make finding new features a guessing game. (Like support for 3D Touch.)

Updated on 2019-10-07

Spotify is now integrated into Siri on Apple iOS devices.

This eagerly awaited feature will let you control Spotify and play music, podcasts, and playlists using the power of your voice. Now you can listen to Disney Hits or an exclusive podcast like Set It Straight with Midland at work, home, on the commute, while exercising, or doing chores, all by saying the familiar “Hey Siri, play. . . ” to hear the audio you want. Just make sure to update your iPhone to iOS 13 – from there, remember to end each phrase with “on Spotify.”

The Siri integration is also available on our new and improved app for iPad.

I'm considering changing to Apple Music because this feature is not available yet and does not seem to be a timeline for me to expect it.  If someone can confirm that it is an API limitation of the Apple ecosystem then I might stay with Spotify, but definitely not if Spotify is just choosing not to implement it on their side.

Sadly, yes, limitation is imposed by apple.

For iOS 10.0, the Siri API will only work with six kinds of application: ride booking (think Uber), messaging, Photo Search (find photos and videos in a particular app), payments (‘Send $100 to John with SquareCash’), VoIP Calling (e.g: Skype) and Workouts (for starting health and fitness activities) …

It looks like iOS 11 brings also Notes and Reminders apps, but nothing on music players. I suspect apple may purposely deny Siri to audio apps to keep the edge of Apple Music... 😞

please it sucks that i have to open the app every time to hear an specific song

More than play pause and skip like play the song earlier or other stuff would be great. I suffer with all this messages like oh i can't finde a song like this in music

As mentioned 100 other times, this is APPLE'S PROBLEM not Spotify's. Apple won't allow 3rd party music applications to use Siri because they only want you to use apple music.

If you don't like this, take it up with Apple. Maybe email Tim Cook about it directly 😉 tcook@apple.com

Apple's SiriKit API doesn't allow for 3rd party music apps to take advantage of SiriKit under their guidelines.

This would be a super useful feature and would allow Spotify to rival Amazon Music + Sonos.

It’s an easy dev option for massive benefit to the Spotify community ... simply it’s a no brainer guys.

Make it happen, please

"Play the {playlist} playlist"

"Repeat"

"Random"

"Play {songname} song name [from {playlist}]" <-- continue playing playlist when song completes

"Play every metallica song that ever existed"

Do you think Spotify will take advantage of the new SiriKit API announced yesterday at WWDC? Developers can update their apps to allow Siri to run shortcuts so users can control (parts of) Spotify with their voice!

Please Spotify,

I have recently switched to IPhone and I miss not beaing able to play music from Spotify from Siri.

There are many people who are in a similar situation as me who just want to be able to control music with their voice.

On android you can control Spotify With your voice, so it should be in IOS too.

You have a bigger audience than Apple Music but still you do not have Siri functionality.

Please Spotify
