Add "remove video content" option to Spotify Family

Please add an option to "remove video content" to Spotify Family! Since video podcasts were added, my children now watch videos on Spotify instead of listening to music.  I had given them unlimited access to Spotify (unlike other apps) because it was only used for music.

All you'd have to do is add another toggle for "remove video content" next to "Remove explicit content".

Spotify Kids is not an option for us.  My children are teens and tweens.  And because they're teens and tweens, they have a very difficult time turning off compelling video content (just like some adults).  If Spotify becomes just another screen to stare at, I'm not sure we want to keep our Family membership.

Muchísimas gracias por tu aportación. Muy interesantes tus comentarios
sobre Tidal y Appel.

Me gustaría saber si al pasar tus listas a Appel no genera ningun problema.
Trabajo con música y tengo infinidad de listas.

A continuar

@pocner De nada 🙂

I've found that Playlisty works great and makes the process simple. The free version allows unlimited playlists but only up to 20 tracks per playlist. For unlimited tracks, you need to buy the Pro version. It is $4USD for a lifetime subscription. Per user. So for my kids that don't have many songs per playlist, we'll use the free version. For family members who have a lot of tracks, it will cost $4 per person. I'm willing to accept that one-time cost personally.

Here is a video demo of the process: https://foote.pub/examples/playlisty-demo.mov

I also tried using "TuneMyMusic" first (recommended by Tidal) but found the Ux a bit clunky, and it is much more expensive.

(I have absolutely no affiliation with either app or the developers for the record)

@ spotify developer team: what is the status on this? Instead of adding option to disable video content for kids, you just keep adding more video options? Well done.

Apparently they're rolling this "fix" out at the moment. Sadly it means we would still have to ditch their old accounts, and it comes with a lot of limitations, for example:

Managed accounts can’t access any social features, including Jam, Collaborative playlists and Blend.

Like, I want to give them the benefit of the doubt, but... if they already have families with parental controls in place, why introduce a totally separate feature? Managed accounts sounds like a massive hassle, unless they're replacing Kids. Which would make it make more sense, I suppose...

Fully agree with this and we will stop our family subscription and switch to another provider if it doesn’t get resolved.
At the moment I have limited Spotify usage via screen time, which is not what I want to do as I love them having access to music and audio content.

I figure Spotify is competing with TikTok, YouTube, and similar apps for our engagement and subscription money. They are inherently going to be aggressive with features that capture maximum attention. Because many other apps could potentially add music features and take their customers. They may eventually listen to customers here, but the incentives are against remaining a pure-music app.

Whereas Apple Music is a platform play - it needs to have just enough features to sell more iPhones and iCloud+. It could go south as well, but it seems like a safer investment at the moment.

I am also really enjoying Apple Music. Found a few new bangers via the human-curated playlists already. Really appreciate not getting sucked back into my filter bubble every time a song or playlist ends.

I used the PlayListly app on IOS to move our adult account playlists over. Accounts that have ScreenTime require a manual per-list copying step, but it is still pretty easy. I did that for my family last weekend and then cancelled Spotify.

I agree with this suggestion. If we aren't able to block video content for our kids we may have to cancel our family plan. The video content is far too addictive and causes them to sneak screen.

Please, give us better control over our children's content as soon as possible.

I too want to stop my children watching endless videos. I have just discovered that my 10 year old is watching you tube through Spotify and I want to be able to stop this. I have removed you tube access for that very reason. Can you PLEASE put in some parental controls that can assist in controlling what I allow my children to watch. The only option at the moment is restricting the time my children can listen to music….
