Add "remove video content" option to Spotify Family

Please add an option to "remove video content" to Spotify Family! Since video podcasts were added, my children now watch videos on Spotify instead of listening to music.  I had given them unlimited access to Spotify (unlike other apps) because it was only used for music.

All you'd have to do is add another toggle for "remove video content" next to "Remove explicit content".

Spotify Kids is not an option for us.  My children are teens and tweens.  And because they're teens and tweens, they have a very difficult time turning off compelling video content (just like some adults).  If Spotify becomes just another screen to stare at, I'm not sure we want to keep our Family membership.

Agree - just found my teenager working around parental controls that block social media by binging TikTok podcasts on Spotify. Second major limitation of Spotify family that is causing me to cancel our subscription and move to a competitor.

To all parents here still in disbelieve:

Please ensure to leave a review in the Android/Apple/Windows app stores on your findings.

Please also submit your complaints where possible to the application stores, I assume that Apps working around family settings is a violation of the terms and conditions for developers to publish their apps.

Now that the price for the Family Account is to be increased, I am seriously thinking about looking for an alternative. I don't want my kids to watch videos on Spotify and I, as a parent, can't stop them.

So, finally I made my decision. After over 10 years a paying member I leave spotify for Deezer. It is not really the new price.  I just can not understand why our complaints about this video issue are just ignored for years.

Btw. it is super easy to transfer your spotify playlist to other platforms.

What a pitty. 😞

I'm sure that as per community guidelines any posts to move to competitors will be removed. Nonetheless:

I had (what seems) to be a very fruitful transfer to the native music streaming app on my Apple iPhone.
Apple Family provides a parental control setting that blocks kids from 'Music Videos' - which doesn't work for the Spotify application, but works beautifully for the Podcast & Music app installed on my daughters iPhone. (meaning - she can still access the 'animated' podcasts - but there is simply no more animation, only the sound!!). Fingers crossed she doesn't find any other loopholes. But this seems more robust.

Worth the investment of transferring our playlists through 3rd party apps.
Shame, 10+ years of Spotify. Will keep monitoring as I prefer to sponsor a Swedish company over Apple and feels this is such an unnecessary reason for me to leave Spotify.

I mean Apple provides a standard 'block video' parental control. There is a Spotify setting to disable video (although kids can easily override). How hard to make an existing Spotify setting a parental control in either the Spotify family subscription itself or by linking up to Google/Apple/Window parental controls?

There is a profound difference between listening to music and watching videos, and there is a very good reason, why I have different screen time settings for YouTube and Spotify for my kids - because I want to support them in enjoying music as much as possible, but limit their video consumption.

Since my son found the videos on Spotify, he is not listening to music at all anymore, but only watching videos, so now I have to run Spotify in the same screen time category as YouTube, which makes it pretty much useless as a family music listening platform.

So I am afraid we have to look out for another platform. Which is a pity, as we have been accustomed to Spotify pretty much since they started. But if we have to change the provider for the kids, this will definitely be the end of our entire subscription, and if the new provider doesn't screw up in a similar way, this is a definitely no-return move. Sorry Spotify, but I think that this Let's grab the kids who are not allowed YouTube move will backfire in the long run.

I agree. I just cancelled our Spotify family plan, directly because of this issue. My money is now going elsewhere, because Spotify refused to listen to their consumers.

Please implement ASAP. This is critical to providing a safe environment for kids to consume on your platform.

Dear Spotify,

like many other commenting here I had a great time with your service for myself and my family but these Spotcast video are a real plague for parents trying to control their kids screentime.

I know the “Spotify for kids” possibility but in my opinion is only targeted to smaller kids starting their music listening experience, it quickly loses its value for teenagers.

The toggle of explicit content is a great option but another similar option is strongly needed to block video content.

Please consider this new feature ASAP

Please consider also this: If you drive away parents to different platforms, they will take along their kids, i.e. future subscribers. Guess, those are likely to stick to the platform they are used to, and not change to Spotify again. So not implementing a video blocking option is actually harming mid and long term business.
