[All Platforms][Connect] re-categorise podcasts as AUDIO so they play on Connect devices

Podcasts will not play on audio-only Connect devices because Spotify has labelled them as "mixed-media". They are not mixed media, they are audio files.

 

This is an issue that has been noted by the community for some time (around 18 months at least) and not addressed by Spotify in any serious way. It is not a niche problem as it will affect ALL users who listen to podcasts and own an audio-only Spotify Connect device. In other words, potentially millions of people globally. Please Spotify, rectify this issue as a matter of urgency. I for one am a regular podcast listener who bought an audio-only Connect device so that I could play podcasts through it, only to find that I cannot because of a categorisation error on your part.

 

To further elucidate the issue, and Spotify's lack of action on it, I point to an earlier (now closed) idea post submitted by another user (charango88) https://community.spotify.com/t5/Closed-Ideas/All-Platforms-Connect-Make-Podcasts-playable-on-audio-...

 

The advice given to this Spotify user was that this is "an issue that's worth investigating" and for them to find relevant help topics. However no relevant help topics exist for this problem.

It seems that this idea ended up in the wrong board accidentally, so we're bringing it back.

 

We're keeping the previous Not Right Now status, as we don't have any immediate plans to implement this. As soon as we have any new information to share, rest assured we'll check back in here.

Hi Spotify, given your move into the podcasting business via your various acquisitions, I would have thought that this would be something that’s higher on your list of priorities to implement / remedy. 

How much more user traction do you need in order to implement this feature? Otherwise, do give your premium users some clarity around when this will be implemented or why it will not so we can appropriately determine if Spotify will be our platform of choice for podcasts.

Make this happen please! It's so frustrating that I want to listen to podcasts in my house Sonos, via the Spotify plug-in, but can't because of this bizarre limitation. It's preventing me listening to these shows.

How hard can it be for spotify to recategorise their podcasts and make them work with Spotify connect?!?

This is a huge issue for me. I’d like to use Spotify as my only streaming service, but the podcast limitation on connected devices is a major issue. This should be considered as a bug by Spotify, not as an enhancement request.

There is absolutely no reason to categorize podcasts as „mixed media“. It‘s rubbish, that‘s what it is. 

I bought a HiFi-connector and send it back because it didn‘t work. Bought another one and found out it doesn‘t work either. That was when I realized it‘s a bug from Spotify, not from the manufacturers. 

I am really really angry about this, it doean‘t make sense at all! Not one bit!

I agree it is a bug and needs fixing, I can't believe that it still hasn't been sorted in over 2 years now!!

I flagged it via the forum quality feedback - it's supposed to monitor the
quality of the forum itself rather than the Spotify team response to forum
requests but hey, it's all Spotify.
If they keep getting nudged about this from all directions perhaps they
will wake up!

I feel like something fishy is going on here... Why is this simple error being ignored for so many years!??
