I really appreciate Spotify allowing you to change your display name.

I get that the username is used as ID, so this is a good solution if it weren't for one thing: The URL of your profile.

If you created an account before your username started being random letters and numbers, it will continue to show your username.

So if you were to change your display name to be something else, whatever you named yourself might show up on playlists and what not, but the old username will continue to follow you in the URL.

And I get you can't simply change the URLs to be the same as the display name, since from what I've seen, you can have identical display names, and that would get messy.

So I think it would only be fair that if on request, your URL can be changed to something else.

Maybe put a limit on it, so it can't be done frequently.

I think that would just be great for everyone who feels like completely getting rid of old names they're embarrassed of and what not.

**bleep**, I would be fine even if the URL just followed the same random number and letter formula.

Just give us the option to do it at least.

It would just be helpful and make the whole name changing thing as good as it can be.

First off, I'm very thankful to the Spotify product team for implementing the ability to change our display names via mobile. This is huge!

In addition to this, I'd love the ability to change my username. I didn't connect my Facebook account when I started my profile back in college, so I got to pick my username. It's not something I identify with now and I want to change it.

While our display names can change, this is important to me as the username is in the URL when sharing my profile. Please consider implementing this!

I had the same problem, I ended up making a new spotify which sucked. but music is really important to me so I would share my playlists and such a lot and I just couldn’t handle people deadnaming me because of it

Thanks for bringing your feedback to the Idea Exchange!

Your username is designed to identify you on Spotify, so it can’t change.

If you chose your username when it was still possible to do so at sign-up, but would like to have your username changed, you'll have to create a new account. You can then transfer all your content over to your new account by following the steps listed here.

Bear in mind that you won't be able to choose a username at sign-up (you'll be assigned one at random), but you can choose a display name and change it at any time - more info on how to do that here.

I would very much like to see the option of creating a personalised "Vanity URL" for my Spotify Profile page link.

EG:  Instead of my profile being at this URL, with random numbers and letters:

https://open.spotify.com/user/22za5pzhploojrcaukgxeoahq

I would like it at a custom personalized link, chosen by me:

https://open.spotify.com/user/my-chosen-name 

I understand that changing the 'username' for Facebook-created accounts is not an easy task, however this could be implemented differently, as an 'overlay' URL alias, rather than changing the underlying username data structure.

This not only is a feature for users that almost every other social platform offers, it also has the potential to create more 'shares', thus driving more traffic to the service, thus increasing your bottom line. 

In short - Done right, this would not be a huge lift to implement, and would have a direct financial return in the way of more visitors, listeners, and customer satisfaction.

There are already 12 threads I found here, and probably several more I did not find, asking for this ability to change the URL of a person's profile page, in order to more easily share their link to their profile on social media.  When I compile all the votes for those posts, including the original posters, there are already 43.  But because they are not on a single post, and due to the lack of curation on this forum, limitations of this search and differences in language, they are not compiled and falling under the radar. 

If we can have everyone on the other threads to vote together on this one, hopefully this can get implemented.

Please consider this.

There are at least 12 other threads in this community that ask for this same feature, but Spotify won't compile them.  Added up, we already have 43 votes!!!

For us to get traction on this request, however, we need to compile our votes into one post.

I know you can change your display name on Spotify but you can’t change your actual username. Can you please add this feature as it will be more inclusive for the trans community. As it is now, anyone that finds my Spotify account can share/copy the link to see my original username with has my deadname (name assigned at birth) in it. This is a huge invasion of privacy. At some point I’d like to put music on your platform but I cant if I know people can go and see my deadname. Thank you.

this is exactly my issue too, having my full entire deadname as my url and not being able to change it is uhhhh frustrating to say the least.
