[Amazon Alexa] Swap Spotify accounts without changing Alexa account

I have a Spotify Family account for myself and my wife

I have an alexa unit in every room, every unit is using MY amazon account as all the lights and home automation can only be setup on one Amazon account

I want to play Spotify in the room i’m in

My wife wants to play her music in a different room

Both myself and my wife also want to use the home automation whilst playing music, eg, turning on the lights

This can be done using Apple music and Amazon music but Spotify require to swap to a different spotify account for the other person

To swap to a different spotify account means changing the Alexa profile of the alexa device and then all the home automation no longer works from that device.

Please can you allow both myself and my wife to play music in different rooms WITHOUT having to change the Amazon Alexa account

It would be great if I could say ‘Alexa, play spotify from Trevors account’ and my wife could say in a different room, at the same time, ‘Alexa, play spotify from Jackie’s account’

This is not a duplicate of other suggestions, I’ve checked and anything close was raised before the ability to swap alexa accounts was implemented. Swapping alexa accounts is only a work around and is not a solution to this problem.

Many people want this feature and your chat team said I should raise it here

Here is a link to the forum, lots of people are leaving spotify because only spotify do not support this feature, you guys need to catch up

https://community.spotify.com/t5/Premium-for-Family/FAMILY-AND-ECHO-ALEXA/m-p/4900618#M26242

From my research it seems there is talk about Spotify only has one concurrent music stream whereas Apple and Amazon music have multiple streams, but please can you improve on this, the thread above was started over 18 months ago, something should be done to improve on this issue

Again, please don’t write this off as a duplicate and do nothing/say it relates to a 3rd party, people still want this feature

Thanks

Folks, just a quick update on this.

Spotify say this

The Community team talks with various other Spotify teams several times a month about ideas with over 500 votes (our criteria for being a top idea). It’s from these meetings that we apply one of the following statuses to each idea….

This idea has reached over 500 votes so I asked on chat for timescales/what will happen next and was told to keep an eye on this thread.

That really sounded open ended!

As the person on chat could only deal with app and account queries, I was told to also contact the support team to get action on this

So as well as voting for this issue (please continue),

Spotify need to keep up with Apple and Amazon and fix this issue - with your help we might just get this solved!

I am in a free trial of Spotify!  I enjoy the integration with my Tesla (which is the reason I'm thinking about switching from Amazon Music Unlimited).  However, I have teenage kids and a wife who all like to stream their own music.  So, while struggling to make that work with Spotify, I came across this thread.  Since it still seems to be an on-going issue, I thought I'd throw my comment on here to let the Spotify team know that I'm considering joining your service and a key part of that decision is this ability to switch between Premium Family plan members on my Echo devices.  Please address this for us.  Thank you.

2022 and Spotify have still done nothing to sort this issue out.

Do you realise how annying it is to be at work listening to spotify to have it interrupted by my son listening to something at home @Spotify ? Multiple amazon accounts is not an option for a 5 year old.

Sort this out please.

My workaround now is that I have installed Sonos speakers everywhere. Within Sonos it is easy to switch Spotify profiles with one click. And I use Alexa only to stop and repeat the music stream on the respective Sonos speaker.

Ha ha ha, that's a pretty expensive workaround for an issue with Spotify,
that they appear to have solved with Sonos.... ?

I have to admit that I have been using Sonos for a couple of years now and that I have "degraded" my Alexa devices to pure input or information output devices. Music never sounded good with these...

Well i’m really angry at spotify, as it write this, 853 people have also wanted this feature and 853 people are being ignored by Spotify. They keep coming up with silly new features and they can’t get the basics right. For @Bentan using Sonos may  work for him but I also want the home automation to work ALL the time and switching profiles will cause that to stop working.

I’ve taken the plunge and slowly I’m trialling the apple eco system the same time, so that’s Homekit stuff and Apple music. I still have Alexa but any new lights etc have to be both Alexa and Homekit compatible (with Hue it works fine on both at the same time)

So this solves my problem, and the wife can play her stuff without stopping my music if i’m running say Amazon auto in the car (not the only example!). Yes Apple music is different, so far i don’t think worse, just different. The ui isn’t quite as good but there are other features, eg, I’m now running lossless (not sure if spotify will do that thru alexa as spotify don’t give all the nice options thru alexa, only on pc’s, which is also annoying).

I would like to say thanks to all the people that took the time to read and vote for my post and now we all know how much Spotify listen to our issues - Zilch!
I now feel that given the amount of time this post has been going, Spotify don’t care and the only thing they will probably do is delete this post!

This whole Topic is soooo sad 🙁🙁🙁

Just to increase frustration slightly:

There has been an almost identical „idea“ since 2018, gathering about twice the votes, this idea received:

https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/Amazon-Echo-Play-multiple-Speakers-at-the-same-Time/idc-...

Spotify decided to do it „not right now“.

Malaka69

Yeah. No progress 😞

I still think this is an Amazon/Alexa issue... Maybe something more related to power/money than an actual technical limitation?  I was reading today for example that the Tidal skill is only available in Alexa USA?!

Anyway, hopefully Amazon brings some sort of update that allows us to link voice to the correct spotify account.
