I think Spotify should introduce a feature that automatically creates playlists based on the colors of album covers.
Spotify could analyze the album artwork of songs and automatically sort them into color-based playlists, such as “Red Songs,” “Blue Songs,” “Green Songs,” “Yellow Songs,” and so on. Users would not have to manually choose a color for every song. Spotify could simply analyze the album covers and create these playlists automatically.
I think this would be much more than just a visual feature. There is already a culture of organizing and sharing music based on colors and aesthetics on platforms like Pinterest, where people create collections such as “red songs” or “blue songs.” People often associate colors with certain moods, emotions, and atmospheres, so organizing music through album-cover colors could make discovering music feel much more personal and intuitive.
Spotify currently has many ways to organize music by artists, albums, genres, and playlists, but there is no way to automatically discover music through the visual identity of its album artwork. This feature could fill that gap.
It would also make playlists much more visually appealing and easier to share on social media. For example, someone could share their “Red Songs” playlist simply because they love the aesthetic of red album covers, while another person might discover new music through a “Blue Songs” playlist.
Most importantly, Spotify already has the album artwork and music data needed for this concept. Instead of asking users to manually organize everything themselves, Spotify could turn that existing information into a new way of discovering, organizing, and sharing music.
I think this would be a simple but genuinely useful feature that could make Spotify feel more creative, personal, and visually engaging😁
