[Social] Block Followers

I believe there should be a way to block people that are following you on Spotify. When blocked, the user will automatically unfollow you and will not be able to find you, or view your public playlists.

Blocking should be possible via both username and email address.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for coming to the Ideas Exchange, and sharing your votes and comments.

We’re pleased to confirm that all users now have the option to block another user on Spotify. With this update, you can actively block another user across desktop and mobile devices, preventing them from being able to see listening activity, public playlists, or view profile pages.

Here’s how it works:

  • When visiting another user’s profile, click on the   (...) button.
  • Select “Block” (or “Block User” on mobile) to block the user whose profile you are viewing.
  • This user will now be blocked and cannot access your page, public playlists or view your listening activity.
  • To unblock a user, click the Unblock option in the same menu.

We're always working hard to provide the best possible Spotify experience in a safe environment.

Please see here for more information.

CAN YOU PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS.

Your users have the right to protect their privacy and emotional well-being from anyone. Not having this creates an environment wherein people who have been vitimized have to put in an incredible amount of effort and sacrifice in order to ensure their safety. The lack of action on this SIMPLE fix is enough to drive me to boycott Spotify. It will happen if there continues to be no response. I may be just one of millions of users but I will not support a company that does not support my safety.

I too have been maliciously targeted in the past. It turned out to be started by somebody I THOUGHT was a good friend of many years, but it can happen to anyone at any time. All it takes is a malicious, pathetic coward who might pick on any ID (even YOU!) at random.

I didn't deserve it. Nobody deserves it. We have all seen on the news some of the tragic results of cyberbullying. It's also a mistake to think it only happens to young people.

Spotify - if you do nothing, you are complicit.

I never write in caps, but PLEASE MAKE THIS HAPPEN! I can't bear to watch my personality disordered ex-wife who betrayed me on so many levels anymore. Really, this should be a priority and a basic feature. I wan't Spotify to be a purely positive experience - I don't need to be reminded of my horrible past.

Really necessary... An update to get rid of unwanted followers...

Do you think this will ever happen?

I don't. This is clearly a business decision that proves they promote stalking. I actually left Spotify to go to Rdio.

Spotify seems like the only social media that doesn't allow users to block others for stalking, contacting, or harassing them. I see NO reason why Spotify doesn't have this feature. It deters the user (who feels uncomfortable by another user) from using the app, which in turns hurts Spotify business. I don't see why they wouldn't do this for their users. Absurd.

This needs to be implemented, to help protect peoples privacy if they wish to do so. I am very interested in Spotify's reasoning behind some of their social features. I Hope the reason they are skimping on some important social aspects of Spotify is to not clutter spotify with features not within their 'vision' of spotify. (ie facebook converting into instagram with ads). This type of development for Spotify is amazing(and safe) for remaining true to the customer. If it isn't broke, don't fix it. BUT it does seem like spotify could benefit from some development in the social aspects of the software. being able to view others song history, being able to comment on songs history, a messenger to communicate with others while they are listening. I think it is important for Spotify to have an awesome Solo/oasis feel to it, but also having a creative/group/social medium aspect would be outstanding (while not being intrusive and giving the user the options to choose how his session plays out). This would make my Spotify experience go outta this world.

I have someone I do not want following me.  I believe this is a right to my privacy.  I do now want this psycho following me and I should be able to block them for good..  I am a loyal subcriber for years and this needs to be changed.
