Crossfade/Automix functionality for songs midway

When Crossfade (or Automix) is enabled in Spotify settings, it only works automatically at the natural end of a song. If I manually skip to another track, click play on a different song (from search, library, playlist, etc.), or use keyboard shortcuts, the current song stops abruptly and the new one starts instantly with no transition.

Suggestion: Please add optional Crossfade (and ideally Automix beat-matching) support for manual song changes as well.

For example:

  • Holding Ctrl (Windows) or Cmd (Mac) while clicking/tapping on another song could trigger a crossfade from the current track instead of an instant cut.
  • Or add a toggle in Playback settings like “Crossfade on manual skips” / “Apply transitions to all playback changes.”

This would make manual browsing and DJ-style queuing much smoother, especially on desktop where keyboard navigation is common. It would feel more like a real mixing experience without interrupting the flow.

The mix feature is cool, but definitely faulty. There is also a big difference between the mobile and desktop when it comes to cross-fading songs and where and when you can do that

Love this idea!!! I've often hesitated to change/skip a song because of the abrupt change you are talking about!

I recall a time, when while listening, mid-song, I clicked ahead on Spotify, to the next song in the list, and the Automix-under-girded would mix the two, without any abrupt stops or black. (Check with the Spotify Engineers, etc.!) I am all for it, anew!
