Custom Themes for Spotify (Background Personalization)

Idea Description:

I would like Spotify to introduce a theming system that allows users to customize the visual background of the app. This could include both preset themes and the option to use personal images as backgrounds.

Feature Overview:

Default theme options (e.g., dark, light, gradient styles, seasonal themes)

Ability to upload a personal image to use as an app background

Optional blur/dim controls to ensure text readability

Per-device or per-profile theme settings

Subtle dynamic adaptation so UI elements remain readable over any background

Why this matters:

This feature would improve user experience by making Spotify feel more personal and expressive, while still maintaining usability. Many users enjoy customizing their digital spaces, and this would allow Spotify to feel less static and more aligned with personal identity and mood.

It could also increase engagement, as users spend more time in an app that visually reflects their preferences.

Thanks for your idea 😀

We don't currently have the ability to add custom background images, but we can influence the background colour. Profiles and playlists respond to the dominant colour in the thumbnail we choose.

So by designing playlist artwork intentionally, you can create your own colour theme.

It’s not full theming yet, but it’s a start 🙂
