Customizable App Icons (Official & Dynamic)

18206.jpg

I recently noticed my Spotify icon changed to a "Disco Ball" design (v9.1.46.1922), which I later found out is a limited feature for certain beta users. This sparked an idea: Why not make app icon customization an official feature for everyone?

Many major platforms like "Discord, Telegram, and Reddit" already allow users to choose from a library of official designs. Implementing this would allow Spotify to feel more personal and integrated into each user's unique OS aesthetic.

My Proposal Includes:

  • Icon Gallery: A dedicated section in Settings where users can choose from various official designs (Classic, Retro, Minimalist, or Special Editions).
  • Material You or Liquid Glass (Android/IOS): Allow the icon to adapt to the system's color palette via Android's monochromatic icon or for iOS users, use the Liquid Glass APIs (Obviously, this would be an exclusive option for each individual platform).
  • Seasonal/Themed Icons: Special icons for events like "Spotify Wrapped", Pride Month, or artist-specific collaborations.
  • Premium Perk (Optional): While it could be for everyone, this could also be a great addition to the Spotify Premium value proposition.

Why it matters:

Users spend a lot of time customizing their home screens. By providing official alternatives and supporting modern system APIs (like Material You or Liquid glass), Spotify would feel more like a native part of the user's personal ecosystem rather than just another static app.
