[Desktop][Connect] Spotify integration in Siri for MacOS Catalina

Hello all,

The idea is really simple: Spotify can now be controlled with Siri for IOS, but not with Siri for MacOS. It would be very appreciated if the Spotify staff would look into this option and keep their customers up to date on the subject, as I believe this is a very much requested option. It's quite frustrating knowing that a Spotify function is available on a 200$ old iPhone but not on a  brand new 3000$ MacBook. If it's simply not possible to integrate Spotify in Siri for MacOS, then it is what it is, but at least find a way to keep in touch with the customers about what steps have been taken and will be taken.
Thanks in advance!

Greets,

Dries

Hey! Thanks for coming to the Spotify Idea Exchange.
We've been keeping an eye on this submission for an extended period of time, and it doesn't seem this will reach the votes necessary to put it forward for prioritization.
As such, we're marking this case as closed. This includes any similar suggestions that are received.

If we do have any new information to share, rest assured we'll check back in here with a new status.

More information about it can be found here.

Spotify's Logic:

"we created this arcane reddit like voting page that we expect the user to randomly discover after they google why a very useful feature that is already supported in apple music and other platforms isn't working on their mac laptops and desktops.  then we will decide if mac users will ever get this feature by judging the number of upvotes on this feature request that most users didn't even know about, even though there are millions of mac devices out there"

makes sense to me

In 10 months this has received around another 100 votes. Mac is an incredibly popular device (as @chasetoys points out), and arguably, there is an expectation for this functionality. I think it's unlikely users expect this to be an issue on the developers end and probably think they are somehow at fault so do not pursue a solution. It'd be great to see this item reopened and updated.

Strange to see that when it is not enough votes Idea is closed.

Do you really think that only 321 persons who is using Spotify on Mac with Siri suggestions?

You can post polly in Twitter to see the real number of users who want to have this feature.

There is a war going on between Spotify, not paying Apple-**bleep** the 30% for the app store and thus it is paying the price of not being integrated with Siri.

I just picked up a pair of Home Pods 2 for my at-home office, and with Airplay I get glitches in the playback - annoying enough that after many years of being a Spotify user, I've entertained the idea of moving over to Apple Music (I've only had the new Home Pods for three days)

Enabling both MacOS and supporting Home Pods with Siri would make the Spotify experience even better.  So many users have already asked for this, and you've implemented it in iOS, so please, please, please bring this to these other devices.  I should be able to seamlessly go between my office, home, my car with a consistent user experience.

While I only have 1 apple product in my house hold, a macbook air 2022 m2, I love IOS and discovered the "Hey siri" command and started asking it many things. I wanted to play a song that I have on my spotify playlist, I asked it and it did not play and told me something. I was like "alright its fine", then the next day my friend and me were playing some games and I asked my friend to play some music, he said "hey siri, play sicko mode by travis scott" and it started playing, he has a iphone 14 btw, I was shocked that a 70 thousand rupees device can play all that but my 1 lakh rupee laptop cant play it. It was a disappointment.

I wanted to comment briefly on what Praveer23 wrote about on 2025-05-02.

The first part regarding iOS and Spotify integration is a pressing issue
for some of us audiophiles that own iPhones who know song titles and
artist names very well. This includes such knowledge about a song like
whether it is an extended version or a remix of it.

...Even just calling up a song using Siri, exactly like what Praveer was
writing about can be a difficult proposition in this era of high tech,
modern computing.

Someone floated a rumor on here that because Spotify does not want to pay
all the way into Apple's App Store commission deal (something on the order
of a 30% commission charged by Apple?) that this is the reason there are
problems using Spotify since their API is not integrating well with
Apple's Siri service. They have hypothesized that some developers at Apple
may be throttling Spotify’s access to their online Siri services. Others
have had the problem with both Siri and Spotify where it will not
understand nor is it able to properly recognize clearly worded requests to
play songs. It's probably not just me and Praveer having run into this
issue.

I think that they should start from there and really not worry about macOS
integration right now. They cannot get this other part which is more
critical to work the right way!
