[Desktop] Select default sound device for Spotify Connect

Currently Spotify defaults to using the default sound device when launched, it would be neat if you could choose which sound device you want to use instead in the options screen.

Thanks

Hey everyone,

We appreciate you sharing your feedback on the Community and showing your support to this idea.

We're setting this idea to 'Not Right Now', as this isn't something we have any immediate plans to implement. If we do have any new info to share, rest assured we'll check back in here with a new status.

Take care.

I have several output devices on my MAC for verious programmes and not being able to switch Spotifys output is incredibly annoying. Who knew it takes 3 years to impletment. I still think that Spotifys 0.9.4 version is the best one they ever released, at least for MAC anyway.

Very annoying the default device cannot be selected, seems like a small option to add in the (advanced) preferences.

 Hi,

Please add this. It's been 3+ years since the staff update.

Many people have been and are using Fidelity 3rd party spotify app just for this feature.

Shouldn't be too hard to add this to the advanced menu.

Thanks!

Please add. This is one big missing feature in my office. It would be nice to have spotify play in the background on my connected audio player whilst using my default speakers for other programs.

I have followed this for a while now. And I also started to look at what they implemented.... this is just sad....

I need so so much this feature!

I use Spotify mainly to hear music when i'm doing some other things, and eventually, that other things requires atention to sounds.

Ex: I play competitive games, and i need to pay more atention to the sounds of the game instead of the music. And i can do this by two ways:

  • I could simply change the sound device with spotify (example), and hear the music in the maximum volume (SO MUCH BETTER), but with a secondary device, then i use my headphone to hear what i want, but at the same time, hear a background great music to keep my mood high. *
  • Or i can change the sound to almost zero (something like this image), and hear my game with my headphone. Note that using this way, its much easier to get confused (omg, this guy is coming from here? oh, wait, its the song that i'm listening - Wouldn't happen if it was on the speakers, because when i want to hear directions with the headphones, theres no need to concentrate on my speakers sounds, because the game is on my headphone).

Even with the maximum volume in the secondary source, it would be like an "ambient sound", wouldn't interfer in my headphone sounds, theres no mix of various different sounds, etc.

Ex2: I aways watch vídeos/streams/etc, and sometimes, i want to put a music to hear while i watch my thing, and with this feature, that would be waaaay more better to execute this.

An quick/provisory alternative of making this feature now would be to add a simple feature (this buttons) to the Spotify overlay (i mean this overlay) to make easier to change the volume of the musics, it would help me a lot while i wait the "Status: Not right now" i think thats since 2012, and i'm in 2015 guys!  to be really an great new feature in Spotify.

This is a fundamental issue , Tidal has a choice , I'm in the test period , and despite the fact that Spotify presents itself better I'm gonna have to stay with Tidal

It's 2015 and it's still not done really?... I can't use my USB headphones with Spotify.

I would really like to see this feature. It's been 12 months since I last asked, and havent heard anything from spotify.

I'm running on OS X so I'm not even sure of any workarounds other than Audio Hijack Pro and i'm waiting for the next OS release for that.
