Let artists Decide !

All artists should be able to decide for themselves what is on their top 5 list, i.e., their highlights. They should be able to compile this list themselves using the artist app.

I've made sooooooo many similar suggestions like this, I would love if artists actually got a customization update so that we could enjoy their content much more in their style, like them making notes for "About the Song" instead of an AI. Even though I'm not an artist myself, I think its been long overdue for an update for them.

SHAMELESS PLUG INCOMING: On this topic, "About the Song" needs a lot of improvement, as it does not share an idea of a song like a human does as it stands, if anyone has input that could help improve the feature, please comment or vote. Thank you everyone for at least trying to get Spotify in order here, in suggestions.

I'm not a fan of this idea (no offense).

I get where you're coming from, but if Spotify isn't careful then such a feature could also be "ab"used by said artists as a means of free advertising (for example by changing their favorites every week or so).. and that could hinder our options as users to find the song(s) which we want.

Personally I think it's more fair to have the top 5 reflect on their actual top 5.

Think about it: right now, you only see the five most played songs.. and in my opinion, that’s exactly the problem. It discourages listeners from exploring the rest of an artist’s catalog. (Look at live gigs today: people just wait with their phones for the TikTok song, and once it’s over, they leave.) 

A better approach would be to give users the option to choose: either view the most played tracks or see a top five curated by the artist. I don’t see any downside to that. The real issue is not having this feature in the first place.

Other streaming platforms already offer similar tools, and artists actually appreciate them. Take SoundCloud, for example.. it provides a much more advanced interface for artists, and there’s no widespread abuse of the system. (If Spotify doesn't follow, it will become obsolete like Facebook)

If anything, a bigger concern right now is the rise of AI-generated music on official playlists. Imo.

We def need this in the next artists app update.

How so?  What is stopping those viewers from digging further into the rest of the artist page, which lists plenty more than those top 5. Not to mention...  you can switch "views" too.

With all due respect (!!) but in my opinion only tools blame their tools, and a tool is only as good as the tool using it.

"Normaal", a Dutch rockband from the "Achterhoek", singing in dialect (awesome guys!). Their music is looking after farmers (and they need it!).

I dunno about you, but when I saw this song not listed.... I started digging.

Also.... "others do that too", isn't a strong argument IMO. Because one can also argue that not doing this makes Spotify stand out. Positive or negative... they stand out 😉

Maybe have a Top 5 most popular songs list. and an Artist's Top 5 Songs that the Artist likes best.
