Smart shuffle is a fun way to discover new songs, but it comes at a cost. Want to reshuffle your queue? Bam, wait a few seconds longer. Want to unshuffle your playlist? Bam, no longer works, and goes to a completely random place in the playlist.

To me this is an unwanted complication, and I'd much rather be able to choose in the settings menu whether I want to enable the Smart Shuffle feature, or disable it.

There is an option in Spotify to turn it off. The catch is that it is only for Spotify premium. 😞

I have Premium, and I do not have that global option. I can only do it per playlist. Where would you do that?

I'm not sure. I have only tried to do it on android and only on 1 playlist.

This morning, I opened the app on my phone and it was downloading 675 extra songs to my phone because of the "add random tracks to your curated playlist" mode that you have to click through every time you want to turn off shuffle. I've been a mostly-happy premium subscriber for more than a decade, but this extra step to turn off shuffle is heavily interfering with my enjoyment of the service. There's a reason I picked the service that lets your curate your own music, and not Pandora. It would be nice if the service still let me do that with fewer gotchas.

I would like a way to disable this extra shuffle mode at the device or account level. It is extremely annoying to have to click twice every time or else get a bunch of random tracks downloaded to my phone.

Just because the overall enshittification trend is strong doesn't mean we can't point out it sucks and is bad business overall for long-term profitability.

This new sMaRt shuffle thing is not only unwanted and laggy, but also borderline dark-design, apparently intended to push "suggested" content without user consent. I've noticed it turning on by itself mid-play without my input multiple times now.

This feature is very annoying, every time I choose a list it is to listen to the songs on that list. It seems incredible that in the end I am paying to listen to what Spotify wants, as if it were the free version. This is mainly annoying and dangerous when I'm driving and using Spotify in the car.
