[Music] ASIO Output Support

Please can you add support for an ASIO audio output device?

As a owner of a separate headphone DAC + Amp, I get much better quality music when I'm using the bit-perfect ASIO output rather than DirectSound, which changes the audio bitstream before it reaches the DAC. ASIO output would be a great compliment to the Spotify high-quality streaming.

Thanks!

We're keeping this idea set to 'Not Right Now', as this isn't something we have any immediate plans to implement. We appreciate you sharing your thoughts.

Rest assured that if we do have any new information to share, we'll check back in here with a new status.

Thanks.

It's important to vote for causes you believe in. I would SO dig ASIO or WASAPI for Spotify. Let's flipping do this.

Defectus

It would be wonderful to se support for this!

Screw this. I am switching to TIDAL. It has ASIO output and they just start streaming in MQA. So long Spotify subctription.

ASIO output is nice but not nice enough to justify a $40 subscription. It
would be less expensive in the long run to get yourself a decent dac, tube
or digital headphone amp, and a good set of cans for a boost in sound
quality. Obviously the better the source signal is the better the overall
performance will be (to an extent, audio quality will hit a point of
diminishing returns) but your hardware makes a very significant difference.
On my setup the difference between 320kbs streaming and FLAC is noticeable
but will not completely ruin the casual listening experience. They also
make some decent mobile dac/amp combos now for superior listening on the
go. If you're anything like me and can't afford and/or justify $480/yr for
a subscription then I highly recommend looking into buying decent hardware.
You'll probably spend at least half that on a decent pair of phones but at
least they'll last you years if you take care of them. . . Idk, just a
thought.

@Vulpephile I would imagine that the kind of person concerned about ASIO/WASAPI support would be the kind of person that already owns a decent DAC and or amp and wants to make the most of it.

BernardStrauss

@Napalmhardcore

Seconded. I never cared about ASIO or WASAPI until I had the hardware.

Exactly. I have decent DAC/AMP combo Audio GD NFB 11 (Chinese price but A brands quality), studio monitors JBL LRS305 and Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7 on my desk. For listening in the living room and on to go I have JDS Labs C5D with HiFiMAN Re-400 and Fiio X3 II (and some others cheaper iem headphones). I dont say I have best audio equipment on the market (in audiophiles world there isnt anything like that ;)) but I think decent source will be good upgrade for me.

BTW I dont know in wich country do you live but in Czech Republic TIDAL Hifi costs 13.2 $ / month. And you can also watch HD music videos (not all in HD but it is nice bonus).

daw1d

The main reason I am complaining here is the fact that ASIO/Wasapi output is free and very easy noticeable upgrade for any audio chain (even for **bleep**y 10$ PC speakers). And I am sure that iplementation of this isnt that hard for company like Spotify. So frankly I will stop giving my money to them only because I feel they dont deserve it if this thread is active for 5 years now 😞

I would hope so too, but you never know. I used ASIO for handling audio capturing years before I got into HiFi listening.

@daw1d

darn, $13?! Can't say I blame you then, i'm a little jealous actually. I'm in the states and I'm an underemployed 4yr college grad indebted to school loans that I was told would be paid off easily by the great job my Computer Science degree would afford me. I guess you could say I'm a little bitter about it haha.

how do those JBLs treat you? I'm strictly a headphone person myself. My tube amp was built by a friend who owns and runs a local music/instrument shop. It uses two telefunken 12AU7s tubes. My DAC is on the cheap side, Muse-audio MiniDac. My main headphones are the only thing I really spent a great deal of money on. I use a pair of Sennheiser PXC 480s and I have an old pair of HD 280s that I love and cannot seem to part from. I do have a pair of Edirol MA-10D monitors but I don't use them much for listening, I find the sound stage and environment lacking in the monitors I can afford. Everything runs through USB/optical cables except for the headphones themselves.

EDIT: Not EVERYTHING runs through digital just the Edirols and the DAC itself the tube amp is analogue L/R setup using copper/gold speaker wire.

"darn, $13?! Can't say I blame you then" I agree. In the UK we get charged £19.99, but then again we always seem to get screwed price-wise in the UK.
