[Playlists] Solution to false/abusive reporting

Whenever someone reports a playlist - the title and cover art are removed immediately. This is often abused to hurt record labels and playlist curators. After contacting support - the account of someone who abused this system gets taken down. This person then creates another email and free Spotify account and repeats the process.

There is a simple solution to the problem - enable reporting feature only after 10 hours of music/podcasts were streamed using the account. It won't change the experience for a normal user but makes copyright abuse impractical. It's cheap and easy to implement and would stop 95% of false claims.

Thank you for your consideration.

I did get a response back from them @JRsuicide but all they say is that they are sorry for whats happening and that they offer you a "new account" with all your playlists and followers that you have on your profile right now.
But since they don't do anything right i don't trust that, i've heard from people that accepted that offer but never got their playlists back with the followers and all. And they also say they have a "special team" working on the case.

I've talked to the Executive Spotify Team, which is the highest tier of support that they give us, they answered my emails like 15 minutes after i sent them but still, i don't trust them neither. Was pretty hard to get to that level of Support, all you got to do is contact the chat support and get a worker that actually does his job right, which is pretty hard to find. After 15 people that i've talked to, one guy was the only one that offered me to get in touch with the Executive Team, and even after a month of talking to them couldn't figure it out how to help us, we just got to wait and hope for the best. Good Luck.

Just became another victim of this incredibly frustrating problem. Wondering if you could help share more info on how to set up a system to automatically replace the playlist metadata. I don't code or know python at all, but have some friends I could potentially reach out to for help. Thanks!

hello all!

i created a script using Spotify’s API to update the playlist photo & playlist content on a timer. I have mine set to every minute for now (the reporter has been reporting my playlist every 3-5 minutes sometimes). it’s been such a relief to have some sort of solution.

I’m going to set the script up on github with instructions on how to set it up for yourself if anyone would like to use it. I’ll let everyone know when i have it uploaded, it will likely be late tonight or tomorrow.

It might be the best interim option while we wait for a more permanent solution from Spotify.

Edit: Here's the script: Spotify Playlist Updater

Hello,

Congratulations for your solution.

I have a colleague in my work who might help but I'm not the guy to ask favours. But I certainly have to get over this one day, because I can't have a single day that I don't have 3 or more reported playlists. My all time record was 8 in the same week. Actually they are 6 reported. It's insane!

Obviously Spotify care, but not much. Because if they do, they probably make a solution in order to end this shameful report system.

The only thing I do for now is to answer each report. In the last weeks, more than 4 hundred. I don't know how I didn't offend them, I wasted too much time to this.

Almost one year began this mess, they have enough time to try something.

How does one fix this problem, i thought it was my cover art and playlist name but any name and picture i put there, keeps getting removed. Please can we fix this issue, it is really annoying or better still can the actually reason for the removal be stated in the mail sent out not just a general overview of why it was removed

this problem is never going to be addressed by spotify because it only hurts the small amount of curators who have large followings or popular playlists that are being targeted by trolls or people trying to boost their own playlists. there's not another site around I can think of that automatically removes something just because 1 complaint has been made.

Hi @autumntillman this is exactly what I've been trying to look for all over the internet. Can't wait to be able to use this! I would love to tip for this as well

I'm working on wrapping up the instructions now, but will have this up tomorrow evening!

O M G, for $50 a year you can buy a service that will keep your playlist online https://playspotify.live/

Their site is not even ready yet. I wouldn't buy from them, because they already have bogus happy customers on their site giving them thumbs up. Here their youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUm4N7tcpTo LOL

Don't be fooled people!

You see what happens when you let hackers roam freely on your platform?

It attracts all sorts of low life con men.

Anyone offering me a website that I need to pay to protect my playlists from trolls makes me instantly suspicious that they’re the ones making some of these false claims.

The solution is that Spotify needs to change their stupid policy of automatically removing your playlist’s art and info without a review process.
