[Playlists] Turn Off/Remove/Opt Out of "Your Episodes"

Currently, downloaded podcasts are automatically added to the "your episodes" playlist (whether you want them there or not). They are not automatically removed when you un-download them. Additionally, is a pain to remove each episode from the playlist, you have to perform at least three steps. This feature, as it currently exists, serves little more purpose than to be a duplicate of the "downloads" tab.

In sum, users should be able to choose whether or not they utilize the "your episodes" playlist feature and have greater control over how it functions.

  1. This is why I hate using Spotify for podcasts. If there was an easier way to roll through the user defined number (2, for me) of most recent episodes without having to remove older episodes from my playlist, I would not have to resort to using a separate podcast app.

Spotify's response to this sounds like hooey.  It was a great app until Google bought it and, even though I pay for ad-free they call the numerous ads by some euphemism like "sponsored suggestion".  More horsefeathers.

It's infuriating to have unwanted "features" forced on us. It's hostile. This could be a great feature if it was a customization OPTION that users who like the feature could opt-in to. But as a platform I think you underestimate how frustrating and disruptive things like this are to regular users who want to control their experience. If you try to get the most out of the app, Spotify intervenes with constant unwanted disruptions to milk us for that extra 0.1% engagement. It feels hostile.

Also, you can't remove once they're locked into a paid subscription that you don't have access to.

(For instance NYT episodes are free to listen to for a week or two, then they're locked into a paid subscription. So, if you don't have that paid subscription, you can add the episode in the first week, and then you're unable to remove it later.)

it has been too long since OP presented this feedback, and it's still there!! even if Your Episodes is empty it can't be removed or even hidden. that's so silly. what are podcast episodes doing at the very top of my music playlists? it should just belong in the podcast section.
