[Podcasts] Search / Filter Podcasts by Language

Would like to see the possibility to filter podcasts on language. This makes it easier to spot (in my case) non-English podcasts.

Updated on 2020-03-05

Hey folks,

We appreciate you coming to the Community, and adding your votes and comments to this idea.
We're setting this idea to 'Not Right Now', as this isn't something we have any immediate plans to implement.

If we do have any new info to share, rest assured we'll check back in here with a new status.
Thanks

This is the most basic feature when searching for podcasts.

As an expat on a country I dont speak the native language makes me almost unable to find programs in lenguages I can speak in Spotify.

I often have to search for programs outside of Spotify (e.g. Google) to then find a link to Spotify as search on Spotify did not give me the right results as it was prioritizing the results on the country I was located even I was using the right search query in the other language.

As an expat this is really annoying.

This is such a basic and important feature, having to browse podcasts in a language you're trying to avoid is so jarring and makes you want to quit the app. Since there's no Hi Res audio on Spotify, it's only redeeming quality now is podcasts and audio books, but if it can't be good at this either I really don't think I can keep using it in the long run.

look, spotify isn't going to implement this feature just because we asked nicely. even if 2000 or 50,000 people ask nicely. they're too big and dominant to care what users think anymore. they always were a profit-driven machine – and they simply don't care about the enshittification of their user experience, only about their bottom line.

this is how all tech giants operate once they're big enough. they've made themselves essential, so they can treat users like **bleep** and we can't easily leave. polite requests and forum posts won't change anything. they're not our friends and they never will be. the only way forward is to find alternative ways to consume.

yes – even if thousands of us leave spotify, it won't make a dent in their profit. they're just too massive at this point.

but that doesn't mean our actions are meaningless. and we shouldn't be cynical. every person who quits and shares their reasons sends a message, even if it seems small. those ripples can spread far beyond us – to friends, family, social circles. bit by bit, people start to see these platforms for what they really are.

so yeah, i'm done with spotify. i've actually only been back for two years, after having quit for six years before that. i was one of their earliest users in the invite-only beta days. back then, i was so optimistic about the new "streaming" services, and the positive things they would do for music. now it turns out it's all garbage – popular music has never as generic and same-y as much as it does now, and artists have never been in such an economically shitty position.

it isn't easy to leave these platforms – and that's by design. they keep it barely functioning enough so that millions don't quit, but beyond that, it's all about them putting in the least possible effort and money as to maximise their profit (which for spotify  was over 1 BILLION euros last year).

anyway, i hope some of you will join me. let's show spotify that we're not going to keep taking whatever scraps they throw us. we have the power, even if it doesn't always feel like it.

In most countries, there is one language, fine.

But in Switzerland, we can talk 3 languages in the same city. I speak french and Spotify only suggested German podcasts. Spotify is therefore useless for podcasts.

Also, what about all foreigners working or living in a country with a different language?

Don't you have foreigners in Sweden?

This thread is almost 8 years old and I keep receiving notifications for the comment I made in 2020...

Haha same. Spotify is a literal joke.

Same request from a French Canadian living in an English speaking province of this country...

It's really ridiculous, a so simple request. But yeah, why not a shitty experience per design? Google search is making billions with same principles.

Not changing this makes searching for podcasts on Spotify USELESS, unless you already have the full name of the podcast. Do you know how many people live in Berlin that aren't German? Or what about everywhere else in the world? People don't live in the country they grew up in anymore. Hurry up and fix this issue @spotify!

I despise every effing recommendation... Including music
