[Profile] Reset Taste Profile / History

Please allow for a reset option, so you can start all over again with a clean sheet.

For now, you have to start over with an entirely new account to do just that. And for that you need to contact Customer Support. Not very convenient.

Hey folks,

We appreciate you coming to the Community, and adding your votes and comments to this idea.

We're setting this idea to 'Not Right Now', as this isn't something we have any immediate plans to implement.
If we do have any new info to share, rest assured we'll check back in here with a new status.

Thanks

Hello,

it’s quite frustrating that podcasts I checked out are permanently showing on my account. Just because you checked it out once doesn’t really mean that you liked or will continue.

we need to be able to clear podcast history and remove these from the account dashboard.

another thing is that I listen to an audio for waves etc Once and now all my Discover weekly items are in this genre and I am not getting proper new discoveries.

I would also like to be able to chat to the DJ and ask it to play a certain song or artist or genre, as well as ask or selected a genre to exclude.

it would be great if you can help me reset my podcasts and discover weekly playlist

How is this suggestion THIS old and has not been implemented? I even contacted customer support and they were not able to reset it. It’s annoying, it used to be my number one source for new music and now it’s just useless.

I'm getting very tired of playlists, radio etc always the same songs not just musicians. How can I erase my history and start over.   I like mixes but over time all the system shows me is the same stuff.   Thanks.

Too bad! You'll listen to what Spotify wants you to. Stop paying for what you don't like or want.

Discover Weekly does not represent my taste of music. Hiding the suggested “mellow background music” does not help.

Please install a reset button so the algorithm forgets what it “knows” about my taste?

Hello Spotify Community,

Today, I want to discuss an idea that could significantly enhance our experience on Spotify: the ability to reset our Taste Profile.

Understanding the Current System

Spotify's current system personalizes our music discovery experience based on our Taste Profile. This profile is an interpretation of our listening habits, influencing recommendations in Discover Weekly, our Home page, and other personalized experiences like Wrapped and Blend. While the option to exclude certain playlists from influencing this profile exists, a complete reset option is not currently available.

The Need for a Reset Option

Sometimes, our musical tastes evolve or undergo significant changes. Perhaps we've gone through a life event that shifts our music preferences, or we've explored a new genre extensively and want to reset our profile to reflect these new interests. In such scenarios, the ability to reset our Taste Profile would be invaluable. It would provide a fresh start, free from the influence of our past listening habits.

Suggested Implementation

  1. Reset Feature: Introduce a 'Reset Taste Profile' option under account settings.
  2. Selective Reset: Allow users to reset their profile while keeping certain elements if desired (e.g., favorite genres or artists).
  3. Temporary Resets: Implement a feature for temporary resets, where users can explore new genres without permanently influencing their profile.
  4. Guidance Post-Reset: Offer guidance or recommendations to help rebuild the Taste Profile after a reset.

Benefits of a Reset Option

  1. Enhanced Personalization: Users can have their current tastes more accurately reflected.
  2. Discovery of New Music: Encourages exploration of new genres and artists.
  3. Adaptability: Adapts to significant changes in musical preferences.

Conclusion

A 'Reset Taste Profile' feature would be a significant step towards more personalized and dynamic music discovery on Spotify. It acknowledges our evolving tastes and gives us greater control over our listening experience. I believe many in the community would appreciate and benefit from this functionality.

Let's discuss this further! What are your thoughts on the idea of a Taste Profile reset? Any suggestions or concerns?

Looking forward to your insights and discussions!

Common on. Users have been asking for this functionality for *years*.

What is there to discuss?

Implement it.

Thank you for this. It is the same idea that I posted a few weeks ago, and as it seems, many people before us. It’s not so much that my taste is changing, but the suggested music is slowly becoming a boring soup.

It is clear that a logarithm cannot really reproduce a person’s taste. It uses a number of parameters but that does not mean that this catches the subjective experience. The suggested music is gradually moving towards mellow, powerless background music. O.K., I like Einaudi when I’m in a certain mood but a hundred Einaudi-type musicians is just too much.

Another problem is that certain “evergreens” keep coming back in endless variations by artists untill they make me sick. This made me literally allergic to certain music that I used to like before. For example: for more than two years when I get a new “weekly” or a “daily”, I first check if there is no version of Chopin’s* “Gymnopédies” in it, which I would immediately skip and hide. I would also welcome a buttom that can block a certain music piece from appearing in new suggestions.

Please install the reset button!
(*corrected, should be Satie, not Chopin)

Chopin’s “Gymnopédies”

Same, except that this piece is by Erik Satie. 😉
