[Search] Search by BPM (Beats per Minute)

Hi All,

As someone who loves punishing my body by going for long runs,  a good playlist to keep me company is essential!

Picking out and discovering which 'choons' are going to speed me up and push me further can be tricky.

One trick used by many runners is to search out and find songs which all have a similar number of beats per minute so they can place them in order and then use the beat of the song to run to.

As such, it would be awesome to be able to search Spotify for songs which have specific ranges of BPM and then pick the cool [subjective] ones for inclusion in your playlists.

Cheers!

Hi everyone!

Thanks for bringing us your feedback in the Spotify Idea Exchange.

While we don't have plans for Search by BPM right now, we're marking this as a 'Good Idea'.

Please know your feedback is reaching the internal teams at Spotify, and they're aware of the votes around this idea.

We'll continue to check out the feedback here too.

If there are any updates, we'll let you know.

Thanks!

Is this a technically challenging request? Why is it still not prioritized and added to your backlog? How many people use Spotify while exercising? BPM is very important to get the right tempo going. There are other annoying ways to get a BPM based playlist but it would be very nice if this is part of the search criteria.

This is an idea I've kept in mi Wishlist for a long time!  I believe there is millions of people who would use this feature, in my case I love organizing my house songs by BPM, and I have a hard time because I usually have to look for it manually.  Very disappointed to not receive a response from spotify in such a long time.

  1. I've been wanting this for years & seen post after post taken down (including my own). Dancers, fitness enthusiasts, runners, cyclists, instructors, DJs, on and on and on and on. Why not? Stay on top of the game or people will leave once there is better competition. So far, other competitors are catching on creating Playlists with certain BPM.  If a streaming service more suitable for active types comes along then you will see a huge lot of people switch over. Market Spotify as a superior service to gym folk and runners as a motivation to workout and I can guarantee you people will join.  Anything that promises fitness & people will pay. Get with the program, we beg you.

Come on Spotify! The fitness community has been begging for years. How hard can it be?!?

Most likely they are afraid that Spotify is being used commercially -
meaning in Clubs and Bars - where DJ´s use it - which normally need
sorting by BPM to search the tracks fitting to each other via their
speed. I suppose this could cause problems with the rights of use or
something like that.

Surprised that its been 9 years and there's none of this metadata in the track endpoint

This request was made in 2012.

Now, 10 years later, Spotify still does not seem to have added this functionality!

Meanwhile, this insecure website offers that solution if users login to Spotify through

*their* website!

http://sortyourmusic.playlistmachinery.com/

Also, there are YouTube videos guiding people to use that website!

How hard is it to allow users the option to add a BPM column on our playlist?

But... you DID HAVE THIS! It was called RUNNING and you could select your favourite style of music and start running - Spotify would check your running tempo (beats per minute) and patch your music through immediately.  However it was stopped in 2018. about 1500 complaints were sent but this is still listed as closed.

This would change my life as a dance teacher!!!

If you search for a specific BPM, you will get a personalized playlist of songs in that tempo:
