[Subscription] Student Discount in Quebec

Hi everyone,

I woke up this morning to Spotify's Student Discount email, which made me glad.., until I found out that it's not available in Quebec. As the voice of all Quebeckers, I would like to address Spotify's Team to make it available in Quebec too. We're a part of Canada as much as the rest of the provinces.

I suspect the culprit to be SheerID; they're the ones in charge of verifications. It must be a language thing since many other companies outside of Canada DO offer students discounts and whatnot without issues.
How is this not considered discrimination? Why don't you make it a discount for white people only while you're at it, this is just as discriminatory.

I doubt it has much to do with the laws to protect customers since, like I said, many other companies do offer all kind of discounts for all canadian customers, including the ones in Quebec.

SheerID is also responsible for verifications for student discounts on TIDAL and guess what? No discounts for quebec students.

I find it pretty disrespectful that Spotify doesn't offer the discount "due to circumstances outside our control", seeing as Apple Music offers it.

@FauxPalindrome I don't think the culprit is SheerID. I signed up with Headspace for their student discount and they used SheerID to verify your status and it worked for me. I tried doing the same but it just wouldn't work with Spotify.

Well, Quebec surely is a province of Canada. But Quebec is different in a way that it uses Civil Law system instead of Common Law system, like the rest of Canada and the US. It is not worth it for Spotify to service tiny Quebec and comply with their legal system, french language laws, hire Civil Law lawyers etc.

Spotify is not Canadian government in Ottawa that is used to deal with all that pain in the ass by treating Quebec like a  "special" province.

According to Statistics Canada (https://statcan.gc.ca/), Quebec had 925,809 students in 2017-2018.
It's the second province with the most students in Canada.
Meaning that it's a significant part of the market in this country...

I recently moved from Ontario to Quebec (I was living in Ottawa, it was a 2 hours trip)
And I was really surprised when I discovered that my school is not accepted for the Spotify Student offer.
I asked to SheerID, here are their answer :

This is so discriminating. Circumstances or not if they can't provide it so EVERY student they shouldn't market it as a student discount but a discount for eligible schools. I wasn't able to get a real answer from them and that is frustrating. I contacted SheerID but they couldn't tell me either saying they we're happy that I shared my concern but they only act as a verifying third party... The fact that it was never resolved even after 3 years of pointing it out shows how disrespectful spotify is. Just go to another platform guys.
