I'd love Spotify to introduce a Workout Playlist mode designed specifically for strength training, HIIT, interval training, Hyrox, and other structured workouts.
Key features I'd like to see:
• Create workout sets and rest periods directly within a playlist.
• Set custom durations for work and rest intervals.
• Assign specific songs to specific sets or exercises.
• Select a specific section of a song (for example, the drop, chorus, or a custom timestamp range) to play during a particular set.
• Automatically transition between songs when a set changes.
• Voice guidance that announces:
- "Start set"
- "Rest"
- "10 seconds remaining"
- Exercise names
- Next exercise
• Ability to create complete workout programs with multiple exercises and rounds.
• Integration with Apple Watch and other fitness wearables.
• Hands-free operation during workouts.
• Workout templates for common formats such as HIIT, Tabata, EMOM, AMRAP, circuit training, strength training, and Hyrox.
• Option to automatically match song intensity to workout intensity.
• AI-powered recommendations that suggest songs based on workout phase, tempo, and personal preferences.
• Ability to share workout playlists that include both music and workout structure.
• Support for coaches, personal trainers, and fitness instructors to create and distribute workouts.
• Visual progress indicators showing current set, round, and remaining workout time.
• Offline support for downloaded workout playlists.
Why this would be valuable:
Spotify already plays a major role in people's workouts, but users currently need separate timer apps to manage intervals and exercise changes. A built-in Workout Playlist mode would combine music, coaching, and timing into a single experience, creating a more immersive and motivating workout while eliminating the need for multiple apps.
