[iOS] Implement Native HomePod Support

Details

Just this week at WWDC (June 22, 2020), Apple announced support for third party music services on the HomePod.  I'm requesting that Spotify implement native support for the HomePod such that one or even multiple HomePods will appear in the "Connect to a device" menu on any Apple device WITHOUT having to connect through Airplay.  This will also allow users to ask Siri to play songs from Spotify on their HomePod(s).

Apple is opening up the HomePod, and I know there are many other HomePod users that would love to have native Spotify support on their speaker.

I have already thought a lot about the differences, advantages and disadvantages of each service.

But my priority is the battery!

Using Spotify (AirPlay1) it forces me to charge my phone twice a day (Yes, I listen to music for at least 4 hours / day).

For now, I'm forcing myself to use Apple Music (although I don't like it).

Amazing this is still listed as "New Idea" when it was SPOTIFY'S IDEA in 2018!

Looking to buy a HomePod but don't have one yet, I really want to know whether Spotify works via Siri voice commands on there.

This page mentions Spotify twice and really makes it sound like it's possible, in which case I don't understand all of the negative comments on this post.

"Once a music service is added to your HomePod, try the examples below and specify which app to use. For example, say something like “Hey Siri, play The 1975 on Spotify”.

"You can set a default music service on HomePod so that you don’t have to say the name of the service (Spotify, for example) when you ask Siri to play something."

Good find @ZJack!  This is hilarious lol 😄 so Apple is actually kinda messing with Spotify.

Also "Hey, Siri I like this song" is not even working on iPhone ... god damn ... but at least I can have a workaround using my watch ...

By george, ZJack has solved it... however if you read further down on the same page:

Add a music service to HomePod

You can play music from other supported music apps on HomePod. Some music services require a subscription.

Note: Not all music services are supported on HomePod.

  1. On your iOS or iPadOS device, sign in to the supported music service app.

  2. In the music service app, go to settings, then add the music service to your HomePod.

It would appear that step 2 is where you'll get stuck because a certain music service app doesn't have that feature yet.

Womp, womp...

When I ask my Homepod if it can access Spotify it states that support for
the App has not been added. In the Spotify App on my iPhone there is a
section that was changed by Spotify recently. It is now called 'Connect to
Apps'. I forget what it was called last week. Last week it included Alexa.
This week it does not. It does not include Siri.

I just bought HomePod. I couldn't even think of that SPOTIFY IS NOT SUPPORTED. Please do something about it, I hate Apple Music that I'm forced to use now...

In short, not supported. This thread would not exist...

I had to resolve myself to get Spotify connect speakers in the meantime

I can only urge everybody here to contact local magazines, newspapers or any other member of press to publish ongoing information about Spotifys behaviour. Especially the long term blame on Apple and their current no-information-no-reaction policy is close to being fraudulent.

Spotify raised the expectation that they would implement the said feature once Apple releases the interface.
Give them what they deserve: bad press.
