Can't Play Downloaded Songs When Offline

We're getting reports that downloaded songs are not playing when the app is not connected to the internet. The offline songs are grayed out but shows that they are downloaded. When connected back to the internet, same songs can be played without issues and still appear downloaded.

Hey,

Thanks for your patience while we looked into this.

We wanted to announce that this issue has been fixed from our end. However, keep in mind you might experience some inconveniences with your offline content that are caused by other things such as:

  • The use of cache clearing apps/settings - these could interfere with the app's normal functions.
  • Storage issues - your device needs to have at least 1GB of free storage in order for Spotify to function correctly.
  • SD card issues - if you're using one, make sure to check out this FAQ.
  • Outdated app - not running the latest app version available can also cause performance issues. Check how to update the app in this Support article.
  • Having more than 5 devices with downloaded music - you can remove older devices by following the steps you'll find in this Support article
  • Not going online at least once in 30 days - your downloads might be removed because of this.
  • The content being removed from Spotify - the downloads will also be removed.

If you're still having trouble after checking all of the above, make sure to start a new thread in the relevant Help Board.

Cuando volví a unirme a plan familiar premium, en mi telefono, no me dejo reproducir ni buscar canciones.

Hey, I've done all the things you've said here and nothing seems to work. I've had premium for some years now and recently changed my plan for a family one. All the people in my family seem to have their spotify working just fine, except for me. I download songs but once i go offline they simply won't play even if they show up as downloaded. Storage is not a problem and I only have 2 devices connected to my account, I've cleared cache, logged out, restarted my phone AND did a clean reinstall following your guides. Nothing works. I love spotify but I'm growing really frustrated about this since its the whole reason i pay for it in the first time. I have also checked my family plan and i am still included so what is the problem? I'll leave a screenshot for reference of what happens when i go offline, album clearly downloaded but won't play a single song:

Hi guys, I think I found the solution, so I cancelled my FAMILY plan and waited until my plan was completely gone, then I switched to a DUO plan, and the downloads work fine.

I don't think the fix is me switching from family to duo, I think the fix is me cancelling my current plan and waiting until that plan fully finished.

let me know if it works for you.

Jaruek

I think the inherent problem comes from switching plans while our plans still had a few days remaining on them. I also have some other comments (solution and problem) on this thread that explain the issue.

paploothepirate

So mine magically started working again this afternoon without issue. I've poked and prodded at it a lot and made no other changes.

Also of note, I did not make any changes to my plan, I was on a singular user premium account if that is of any help.

This issue will never be fixed. It’s been ongoing for years. Tidal do a family subscription and their music quality is much better

Thousands of us. All the same. Only with family accounts.
Jaruek

If you only started getting the problem after switching plans, cancel your plan, then wait until the remainder of your plan is COMPLETELY finished then you will be transferred toa spotify free account, then join or make a new plan and you're problem will be fixed.

honestly I think it's a really easy thing to fix spotify. I don't know why we have yo do this.

JuliaAl

Hi @Jaruek , did you join the Premium Duo as a main account or by invitation by other member? It seems that main accounts do not get the problem in the first place, only those who join them by invitation.

@YP-gb I hope they will. I wonder how many requests their customer support gets because of this issue, and what is a users churn because of that.

My Question or Issue

I recently switched from a Spotify premium subscription to a duo subscription with my mother, but I'm unable to download music on my phone to listen offline. My mom is the plan owner and she doesn't have this problem. I've tried logging out, deleting, and redownloading the app, as well as leaving and rejoining the duo plan but nothing seems to be working. What can I do to fix this?
