Issues with playing tunes outside of Liked Songs or playlists on the desktop app

Hey there,

We're aware of issues with playing songs outside of the Liked Songs collection or playlists.

This is being investigated.

Hi folks,

A few days have passed, so the latest version which includes the fix should now be available to everyone! You'll find more info on how to update the app in this article.

Once again thank you all for the collective effort in aiding us during the investigation. You're awesome!

Cheers!

Awesome! Thanks for confirming folks! I'm honestly so happy to finally hear that!

A massive thank you to each and every one of you in this thread. The help and dedication you've shown here is beyond admirable, and for that you have our utmost respect!

We'll give this a few more days so that the others can also confirm the desktop app's working normally now. Fingers crossed!

Cheers everyone! You rock!

My Question or Issue

Since a couple of days ago my Spotify desktop app suddenly doesn't play any songs anymore: I search for a song but when I press the Play button nothing happens! (see attached screenshot)

But: When I right-click on the song and choose "go to song radio" it plays the song just fine! What also works are "public playlists"...

This has never occurred before and I already tried reinstalling, clearing the cache, disabling hardware acceleration etc., to no avail.

Does anybody have a clue maybe? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

(NB: The OpenSpotify web player works just fine!)

Its the same situation as most others, every song not within a playlist I use I am unable to play, but songs within my liked songs or other playlists are able to be listened to.

I have struggled with this problem a long time too. I bought a new computer which I installed Windows 11 and the problem have existed since. It is weird because I can still play some songs but not all. Only public playlists seems to be working consistently. I have tried so many different fixes but no luck.

Hey folks,

Thanks for all your replies and help.

We've gone ahead and passed this important info on to the right folks. Rest assured this is being investigated. In the meantime, we'd suggest that you subscribe to this thread in the three-dot menu, so you can stay up to date on any news we'll have to share.

We'll be here if anything else comes up.

OoO the original post is from july! you guys need to fix this, a literal game breaking bug thats been going on for 3 months. seriously.

pathtracer

I've been having the issue for almost five months. In fact, just over four months ago I followed up by posting a video demonstrating the issue, alongside a detailed breakdown of exactly when and how the issue occurs.

Since then, there has been virtually no progress on fixing it, which is why I finally canceled my premium subscription the other day. Four months, and still no closer to fixing a major bug that completely breaks the functionality of the app? Not worth paying for.

I've been having the exact same problem lately too

My Question or Issue

Spotify appears to be offline, while it's actually online. It doesn't let me download songs, I'm not able to play songs which I haven't downloaded (it greys out just like mentioned in this topic: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Desktop-Windows/Spotify-desktop-app-doesn-t-play-songs-anymore-exce...

I've already tried a full re-install of the app but none if it is working.

ive been holding out on switching because i have a family plan so spotify is super cheap, but yesterday i finally got tidal and the desktop app is so nice, and also it actually plays music believe it or not

i myself have resolved this issue. idk the chance of it working for everyone but I was trying to solve another issue of battle.net launcher not installing and blizzard suggested i reset the WMI Repository on my computer. This is easily done by opening command promt as an administrator and entering the following commands in order :

net stop winmgmt

winmgmt /resetrepository

net start winmgmt

I Hope that this will help someone please reply if it also works for you guys!!!
