Now Playing bar missing on Android

Hey folks,

We have received reports that Android users (mostly Samsung users) are unable to see the Now Playing bar on the app whenever they play songs/podcasts.

If you’re experiencing this issue, make sure to click +VOTE and Subscribe to the thread to be notified of any developments.

Hello everyone,

We've been continuing to gather your details in this thread and further looking into matters.

As mentioned previously, the issue with the now playing bar had been resolved for the majority of users about a month ago. The common denominator with every report received afterwards was that this was still intermittently an issue on Samsung phones.

There's most likely something within how the affected phones process and handle the Spotify app that still causes the now playing bar to misbehave. We'll continue to work on optimizing the app and trying to find a permanent solution for those affected.

While this is ongoing, we want to thank @Tom0527 for posting steps that provide a solution by modifying some phone settings. Follow the instructions in his post and you shouldn't have any more troubles.

As we now have enough information, the general fix is in place and there's a device-specific solution, we will be marking this thread as Fixed and closing it. With that being said, we want to reiterate that we'll continue in our efforts to improve stability for all supported phone models from our end as well.

Take care!

On andriod, samsung A51

when starting the app and playing a song the song will play but it doesn't show that the music is playing ( the thing that comes up down the bottom with pause skip doesn't come up). after resetting the app it fixes.

OK thanks Mario, that isn't really information. Can you confirm when this
problem will be fixed? I have auto-updates switched on and if this isn't
fixed by Saturday I am cancelling my subscription, as the next payment is
due on Monday.

I am cancelling my subscription, as well. I'm not paying for a product that doesn't work for a company that won't take the steps to make it work (rolling back broken updates, testing updates BEFORE they're released).

Spotify v8.7.20.1261

Android 12

Spotify will be working fine. I stop listening to music for a while. Go back to the app and the now playing is gone. I'm able to select a song and play it, but the bar at the bottom that shows what i'm currently listening to, is gone. Restarting the app fixes it, but this keeps happening multiple times a day.

Another odd thing to note, that started at the same time and happens only when the bar is missing; I bluetooth it to my car and it will play the song, won't show any song info on my display, and when i shut the car off, the music stops for a second then starts playing out of my phone speaker.

I'm pretty sure Spotify app updated when this started as the now playing bar at the bottom looks different. I don't remember it previously having rounded corners and it kind of has a floating look with the way the songs/settings scroll behind it. Hope this info is helpful.

Exact device and Operating System version Moto G (6) Android version 9 PPSS29.55-37-7-10

App version 8.7.20.1261

Troubleshooting steps tried so far - Cleared cache and data and undertaken clean install.  App is already set to auto update.   Need to log out and back in to display song.  Pausing player seems to trigger the fault

Listen to podcasts all day at work. I have a note 9 and use samsung earbuds.

When the play bar disappears, I lose control over the ability to pause/stop the podcast. The podcast will just keep playing until I can get to my phone.

Have to close the spotify app and reopen to get it back.

Never had this happen before. I am talking years of spotify use until this latest update.

This used to happen with google podcasts and was the whole reason I switched to spotify podcasts.
