Playback issues: Songs going silent on Android app

We've received reports from Android users that the progress bar of a song keeps moving but there's no sound coming out. When the app is restarted, the progress bar goes back to the point where the song went silent.

 

Some users noticed that the issue doesn't occur when the features below are toggled off:

  • Gapless playback - found in Settings > Playback
  • Equalizer - found in Settings > Audio Quality

Hey everyone,

 

In case you're experiencing this issue, make sure to give it a like and provide the following info (if you haven't already):

  • does the app switch to the next song or is it stuck on the current one (with the timer still counting)?
  • your device's OS version
  • the version of Spotify you're running
  • whether this occurs when playing from the mobile device directly or when connected to another device (Bluetooth, headphones, etc.)
  • the troubleshooting steps you've tried so far

Thanks! We'll pass the info on to our tech folks so they can look further into this. In the meantime, you can try the workaround of disabling Gapless playback and the Equalizer in the app's settings to see if that does the trick for you.

The app few days back just randomly started to not show any output from the device. I've tried reinstalling and everything, but still the problem is with the app. The music plays fine on the web version on my phone, even on my pc. I've tried logging others account on my Spotify mobile app, still the same issue, no sound output. The app shows music is playing but no sound whatsoever. Ive tried installing reinstalling several times as well still the same. @Yordan

I actually haven't noticed this issue for a while now so I am wondering if an actual fix is out or if this issue would be updated to notify us a fix is out?

Same here, haven't had the issue in a while. However, I might have changed the way I use the app. I hope that it is gone for good for me, but it seems there are still folks out there having this issue..

It has been working, more often, to me as well.
But as late as this morning Spotify played a 3:46min long song silently for hours.

It is random, hard to reproduce and very very annoying.

also having this issue...I thought it was my head unit being flakey until I saw this post.  Been happening for months.

latest version of Spotify from the store. (and recent versions for the last several months)

 

Edit: This happens most often when paired to my car but that's also 3/4 of the playing I from this device.  I have to disconnect bluetooth and re-pair sometimes several times to resolve the issue.  Sometimes, it will not resolve until the car is turned off and on again.  ***This does NOT happen with other streaming apps in the tests I have done since finding this post and turning off gapless play does not seem to help.

Hey everyone. Still having the issue as of May 11, 2024.

Spotify v.8.9.38.494

 

  1. Audio stops every few songs. Sometimes every two songs. Happens on Bluetooth. Happens with headphones. Happens with streaming. Happens with downloads.

This app continues to annoy me on a daily basis and is by far the most broken music player I think I've ever used. Completely useless if you have any sort of real sizeable music library, too. Doesn't load anything, can take minutes just to load between screens, etc...

 

Anyway. The issue at large STILL hasn't been fixed and this thread traces its roots back to JANUARY of this year. 

 

Please, Spotify. Fix your app. Please.

I have been having this issue for SEVERAL months now. It doesn't only happen once in a while. It's happening constantly. The playback stops 3+ times during ONE song. Extremely frustrating. Rarely, I can pause and it will play again, but usually I have to change the track or close /reset the app all together. 

This issue occurs while streaming and playing downloaded content, with audiobooks, podcasts and songs.

I used to love Spotify, now it's just a huge inconvenience to use.

Attempted to uninstall and reinstall this app multiple times and it is up to date.

Try disabling your equalizer in the settings. Fixed it for me

I have the same problem, also it skips songs without any reason, the problem only is when i use it on my LG C9 tv, the app is updated. When i use my phone to connect the soundbar there is no problem.
