Smart Shuffle keeps turning itself on

Hey folks!

Some of you have reported that Smart Shuffle is automatically turning itself on again after being switched off. This is now being looked into.

Note: The Smart Shuffle feature works on a playlist-by-playlist basis. If you turn it off on one playlist, it doesn't mean that it is turned off for all playlists.

Hey folks,

Just a heads-up that you can now toggle whether Smart Shuffle is available on your mobile apps from the app settings!

1. Tap your profile picture at the top.
2. Tap Settings and privacy.
3. Select Playback.
4. Switch Enable all play modes off and you're good to go!

As for this Ongoing Issue thread, our tech folks are doing their best to figure out the root cause of the issue itself.

How many times do I have to disable the smart shuffle feature for Spotify to learn that I hate it?

Either have an option for a user to disable completely, or add a second smart shuffle button next to the normal shuffle.

I don't want to hear the modern day payola...

It's mid September and this is still an ongoing issue. I highly doubt their devs are so incompetent that they need this long to track down a pretty simple bug... especially when it takes considerably less time to slap together whatever the next AI-enabled, crypto crowd-funded, smart-home moneyshredder that the suits are pushing for in {{current_year}}.

Yeah.. this is obviously an intentional bug with their app. Falls under the same category as car mode, where they think it's their position to lock down the app while it thinks you're driving just to cover their hides because "legal team says so"

Interesting that it’s September and this is still an issue. Paying for Premium when this persistently occurring is frustrating.

I am on iphone 13 pro, ios 17.6.1, my Spotify app is fully updated, this happens on multiple playlists in as little time as about 15 minutes both when using Connect and when just playing on my iphone, I only use this device. To reproduce the issue, I just go to a new playlist and it happens there, or I can turn it off in the same playlist and it will turn itself back on.

I do have issues with smart shuffle, too. It's happening under Android, the Linux App and the Windows App. Most recent versions available on all platforms so far. I change the playlist, being on shuffle, it will activate smart shuffle by default until I disable it manualy for the current playlist.

I really starting to *hate* smart shuffle. What is so "smart" about it anyways? I do not want to be annoyed by some algorithm or AI that thinks it knows what I would like, I just want to listen to my own playlists - just like they are.

At least give us the opportunity to disable smart shuffle in our account settings globally so that those of us that do not want this "feature" at all are able to opt-out completely. You'll still receive our membership fees, anyway. Please consider this solution. It cannot be that hard to address the whole issue this way.

This just started happening to me, too.  It's also playing the same songs over and over again.  This is very frustrating.

Hi,

Shuffle broke in the latest Spotify version for iOS18. I have an iPhone 14 Pro. It will not shuffle at all by regular or smart shuffle. And it doesn’t let you disable Smart Shuffle.

Smart shuffle constantly turns itself back on even when I turn it off. You can set regular shuffle, go two songs forward and it'll turn itself back on without asking and keep recommending you music you hate. Why are you SO INSISTENT about this stupid idea??

Please I don't know why you all have such a **bleep** for smart shuffle but I hate it, and I don't have unlimited data so it screws me there too. Just let me turn it off altogether.

Please please pretty please let me remove the smart shuffle with an option through the settings, I don't want it , i don't use it, i don't want to be paying for something that is annoying to use because of this feature.

I wonder if smart shuffle is too important of a value proposition by Spotify to creators, that the developers etc are literally not allowed to turn it off.  There's also the facts that: smart shuffle can be accidently turned on; there are bugs where people can't turn it off; at one point they swapped the order of shuffle and smart shuffle being turned on as you press the button.  It's like a tiny further increase in value to have people accidentally turn it on.
