Unable to stream on Apple Watch

Hey folks,

We're receiving reports that users who previously had the option to stream on their Apple Watch are unable to do so. In a lot of the cases this seems to come up when the setup includes AirPods.

If you’re experiencing this issue, make sure to add your +VOTE and follow the instructions in the Status Update below.

We'll be keeping everyone up-to-speed here, so make sure to Subscribe to this thread.

Thanks!

Hello everyone,

We've been passing on your details to our developers and they have already rolled out several improvements to fix the experience reported.

While the number of new reports seems to have dropped significantly since updates to both the Spotify app and watchOS in the last couple of months, we are aware that some users do still experience issues streaming directly from their Apple Watch, but our tech teams weren't able to reproduce it and this seems to be affecting specific devices or setups, so we're unable to find a solution remotely.

A common solution that we see has been reported working is to do a factory reset on the Apple Watch and add it back as a new watch vs. restoring a backup.

Also, keep in mind that the built-in speaker in the watch cannot be used for music playback by Spotify and you’ll need to have headphones connected to the watch via Bluetooth.

We hope this helps. If you still need a hand, you can start a new topic in the relevant help board, including all the steps you've tried so far and the outcome, and we'll take it from there.

Spotify on my watch is unable to play from the watch or download any music. In the devices menu on the spotify watch app, selecting my watch causes it to load forever. Can control music on other devices fine.
Bluetooth pairing with my earbuds works fine, and Apple Music is able to function as desired.
I have re-installed the spotify app, restart both the phone and watch, no fix.

latest version of spotify on phone

deleted and redownloaded spotify onto iwatch

I have the same symptoms as everyone else.

I cannot quite believe this wasn't the number 1 functional requirement of the spotify iwatch app. To stream between watch and headphones without the iphone being close by.

yes I vote for what i'd expect to be the standard functionality

thanks

Hey @coling913 and @adjans,

Thanks for reaching out.

Just to confirm, did you follow @Jeremy 's suggestion here? It'd be great if you'd let us know if that helps.

Cheers!

Same here. Apple Watch series 5 (non-cellular), latest WatchOS, iOS and Spotify apps as of October 8.

The Spotify app on Apple Watch just will not connect to my Bose Soundsport headphones. It used to work, at least until the start of summer, and I was really happy Spotify finally made offline use possible. Over the course of summer I ran without headphones but am in a bit of a sportive slump and last week decided I could use some music to keep me going. It just doesn't work. Other apps will direct sound to the headphones, so it looks like something spotty with Spotify 😉

Sometimes the app will state something went wrong but when I try again, clicking the iPhone icon often will not even display the menu which lists my Apple Watch, iPhone and several Airplay 2 devices I have in my home - it just does nothing.

Discovered this morning that I couldn’t stream Spotify to my AirPods while on a run without my phone this morning. Worked fine while I was home, but once I left, it wouldn’t start back up and would only list my phone (which was obviously nowhere nearby) as a destination for playing audio. Disappointed, to say the least. (Spotify, you had *one* job....)

Hey @2fifty6  and @Gregoire1970 ,

Thanks for posting.

Could you also confirm that you've followed @Jeremy 's suggestion here? Let us know if things worked out afterwards.

We'll keep an eye out for your replies.

Hi @Mihail ,

You can ignore my +1. It seems to be working again. Don’t know if the upgrade to WatchOS 8.0.1 had anything to do with it but I’m a happy camper again.

Have a great day!

Hi, I’m having the same issue as everyone else.

I can play music fine with my watch when my phone is nearby. I have songs downloaded to my watch to play offline without my phone but it never works.

Firstly; the app on the watch is incredibly slow and clunky and always resetting.
Secondly; once I do get into the app and select my downloaded playlist, the song plays for 2 seconds before cutting out.

I have the most recent update on Apple Watch series 3. I have AirPods and iPhone 11 with update 15.0.1

I’ve tried factory resetting the watch, deleting the Spotify app and that didn’t resolve the issue.

Please help as I don’t want to have to use Apple Music (which works with absolutely no issues)

  • Spotify Apple Watch, current version
  • IPhone 13 Pro Max, iOS 15.0.2
  • Apple Watch 7, up to date
On a 5G plan, Spotify won’t stream when away from iPhone. AirPods Pro are connected, but Spotify is always waiting to connect to device. All other audio apps working fine. Have tried to Forget the AirPods and re pair them, didn’t work. Did a Factory Reset on the Watch, clean re-build, re-installed Spotify, same problem.
