[iOS] Cover art + track title is "stuck" on the first track played on BMW head unit

Track titles and cover art is not displayed correctly on BMW (2015) when playing through Bluetooth or the USB interface in the center console.

Symptom: Music plays and it is possible to switch tracks, but the cover art and track title is "stuck" on the first track played. It played great in the past and playing well with other music apps.

Device

(iPhone Xs) Running version 13.3.1

Car: BMW X6M 2015

Hey folks,

We haven't had any updates for you all in a while and in the interest of keeping this thread updated for other users stumbling upon it, we'll go ahead and mark it as Won't Fix for now.

Rest assured that we've passed on your reports to the teams around this. This is a very specific issue to this particular device setup with BMW head units and seems to be affecting only a smaller subset of users. However, if you're experiencing something similar but on a different head unit, we'd recommend starting a separate thread here so we can take a look.

Keep in mind that this doesn't eliminate that a future update of the app could improve things for you, so keeping the app always updated is a great idea.

We do appreciate you taking the time to add your comments in this thread! If we have any further updates for you regarding this, we'll make sure to share them in this thread with you.

2014 BMW 328i, updated to the latest BMW update and IOS update...still not working. Problem started earlier this year, it is quite frustrating to see that this is a COMMON problem ongoing for some years and Spotify has made no progress whatsoever to fix it. I know for a fact it's Spotify related because when my friends connect to my car's bluetooth and use Apple Music it works perfectly.

I don‘t have BMW connected drive, so I‘m listening Spotify via bluetooth audio in my BMW.

I can listen to music, thats no problem, but when I skip a track, the song covers and titles are stuck and won‘t refresh to the new song.

I‘m using an iPhone 11 with iOS 14.2 and the newest Spotify version 8.5.83.1426, also my BMW has the newest Update 05074.

I‘ve tried everything to fix this problem, but the problem is still present.

I‘ve been waiting for about 4 months now for this problem to be fixed.

I have had the exact same problem for 10-11 months now. It was working fine until Spotify got automatically updated on my iPhone some time around January 2020. I have a 2014 BMW 528i (F10) with the latest ConnectedDrive software available for that car (BMW file UPD05074.bin). My iPhone is Xs with the latest versions of Spotify (8.5.86) and iOS (14.2). This has taken way too long for Spotify to fix, I'll probably switch to Apple Music soon.

Hello i know this post is kind of "old" but does anyone managed to solve the problem? Any answer or solution by Spotify?

I have the same problem with my BMW. I can not change the song and the song name is stuck.

Hope Spotify listen to us and manage to solve the problem.

For me that was the only point that made me to unsuscribe to premium.

Hi, the problem is not solved yet. I wrote several times with Spotify about this problem and even with BMW but the problem is on Spotifys‘ site, on BMW‘s site everything is alright.

I am writing with Spotify since June but they aren‘t doing anything... Everytime only the answer keep your App updated. I don‘t think they want or will fix the problem many BMW drivers have. We are paying for the service and nothing happens.

Just for the update: I‘m using my iPhone 11 with iOS 14.2 and Spotify 8.5.86.739 and the BMW UPD05074 and it still dosen‘t work.

Just switch to Apple Music and everything works fine.

This issue does not happen with YouTube Music - Since I also pay for Youtube Premium, I decided to give YouTube Music a shot as I can't take this issue anymore in my BMW. I literally had to use my phone to see what song is playing, and that's unsafe when driving.

Oddly, the sound quality is better in my car with YT Music over Spotify Premium as well. After spending some time migrating my playlists and liked songs, it's a good solution for us.

The bottom line is that Spotify won't fix this problem unless there are more people who "vote" on this. Currently (as of 2020-12-11), there are approximately 70 comments in this chain and only 30 votes (please see top right corner for the vote button), which is why the problem status is listed as "Not right now". The only way for this to catch the eye of the Spotify team is if there are enough votes, which is probably not going to happen given how long this problem has been around. Also, newer BMW drivers will probably just adopt Apple Carplay and bypass the ConnectedDrive problem altogether, which means the group of affected people (us) will probably remain small enough that Spotify won't give a damn. I suspect most of us will either switch to Apple Music, YouTube, etc., or just resign to live with it and swear at it as an everyday little insignificant annoyance.

I have same trouble. BMW F31 2013, with NBT unit (big screen). I don’t have Apple CarPlay.

BMW system od updated. Phone: new one iPhone 12mini.

I am really dissapointed, because I don’t have any troubles with android phones

Same problem here, started about a week ago. Has been working perfect up until then so I assume it's because of a Spotify update. Other apps does not seem to have this problem. It does work occasionally, like if I restart my phone (just force closing Spotify does not seem to help).

Using bluetooth from my Oneplus 7 Pro to a Pioneer head unit in my Ford (I don't think this is an issue specific to BMW). Please sort this out Spotify!

Well, I ended my subscription to Spotify and switched to Apple Music. Problem solved. Sorry Spotify, I usually root for the underdog, but I didn't see any incentive to remain with Spotify when there is an alternative that simply works and doesn't have this software bug. It wasn't an important matter, just a little annoyance that I won't have in my car anymore.
